New PC HD Lineup June 23rd

I'm sure like me everybody else in town got the new lineup Ad in the mail.

931 - Animal Planet HD
933 - Science Channel HD
940 - The Weather Channel HD
948 - Fox News Channel HD
950 - HGTV HD
951 - Food Network HD
960 - ABC Family HD
961 - Disney Channel HD
970 - FX HD
973 - AMC HD
983 - ESPNU HD
986 - FOX Sports Florida HD
987 - Sun Sports HD
990 - Speed HD
994 - Outdoor Channel HD

So that's the new High Def channels being added here in the PC market. I must say I'm not impressed at all, don't get me wrong its good to get some new HD but where's USA HD and SciFi HD. We where told we would be getting 20 new channels and it looks to be 5 short. Now lets see how much more compression we get. (Try watching Speed Racer on Cinemax HD it's just 135 minutes of tiled up garbage.)

Please also note that a lot of digital and analog channels are being moved around.

I heard new HD channels were coming. But, I've been with DirecTV now for almost -1/2 years for tv (still have K for phone/net). I've enjoyed most all those, and more, for that time PLUS been able to get 4 HD/DVRs, an SD DVR and 2 more SD boxes for the same price I was paying K for only 2 HD/DVRs and 5 SD boxes. My "break-even" point price wise will be in 7 months with D* (to offset the upfront fees). I'll then be saving money over K but with all those extras.

BTW, I just received my K bill and there was no mention of anything. Did they put it in the bill? If so, I guess they dont tell you if you don't have TV. Seems like it would be a way to entice people that don't have it yet. Oh, well.

A bit off-topic, but goober, how do you get your locals and networks? I currently have DTV also, but keep cable (just switched to Knology from Comcast) for the locals and networks. I was able to get a waiver for Fox and CW, but nothing else. I'm new to PC, BTW.

I have 4 HR20 boxes and they have OTA tuners in them. So I have an antenna array (2 - 1 for UHF and 1 for VHF). That way I have locals in the living room, den, master bed and oldest child's room. I don't get them in the kitchen, a 2nd child's room or my office. If you have a HR21 or higher, you can get the AM21 OTA add-on unit. If you have a SD box, you are screwed!

I am miffed that D* added Tally, Mobile/PEN/FWB, & Dothan (who is lower in DMA) in both SD & HD and we have yet to even get locals in SD here. I told them when I signed up that if I did not get 4 HR20s, then I would not go with them (that is when they were rolling out the HR21s hot and heavy). They did send the HR20s with OTA and - here i am!!!

I'm in the Cove area, and I can't get poo from rabbit ears, even amplified one. I do have the HR20, but no luck. So I'm stuck with cable for now. Thanks!

Even on the beach OTA is a pipe dream, best I can do with amplified rabbit ears is WTVY out of Dothan and local PBS.

Our local TV station's here are weak sauce at best and that's no saying much. Only reason I even complain about it is I like watching my sporting events in HD. Knology like Comcast hella compresses the HD channels.

P.S. On a good night when the wind is right and the moon is in the right phase I get WEAR from Mobile.

Well after the earnings call Knology claims they will come back later in the year and add another 10 HD channels but only in some markets.

Just an FYI, I'm not using rabbit ears but I have an outdoor setup. I use a DB8 UHF antenna along with a UHF/VHF mid-rang yagi setup thru a combiner and a pre-amp. This is pole mounted in my backyard about 30 feet high (cedar grove area). This leads to a 4-way splitter and feeds the HR20s.

I can pull in WJHG (although a weak signal since they are on reduced power currently), WMBB, WPGX & WTVY. I usually get WFSU (PBS) 95% without issue and lately have been able to pull in BeachTV (although I don't watch it.)

I tried inside antennas first and never could get anything with them.

So the guys worked all night at the headend getting us some new HD channels but I guess they had some issues because FOX News HD comes up with "Not Authorized" and HGTV-HD is just showing PBS.

Got word this morning from my grandparents and there very upset about there church channels being moved to digital.

Ok so we got Fox News HD about 2 days ago and the compression is crazy bad. If they do a fast camera change the whole screen tiles up. FXHD has audio dropouts a lot of the time and its real bad during Rescue Me.

Tech came out and found nothing wrong here but he noticed that somewhere in the system is an RF leak so he did a sweep of the house and found nothing. He told me he was riding up the street to check some things and never came back.

So far tonight the channel's have not dropped out but foxnewshd still looks like crap. (blocking all over the place)
And I still get random audio dropouts.

Notice "Waiting QAM" and no picture.

(Notice these are not zoomed in.)

And the blocking! (Also notice the hum bar that runs across the picture about halfway down. This hum bar scrolls up the screen all the time and on all hd channels.)

As a test I've unhooked everything from the tv but the cable box and I still get this hum bar. I don't get this hum bar on any other input so it's not a house grounding problem.

That's the wrong page to base your signal problem off of. Go to page 5 and look on the right hand column. You want to pay attention to LEVEL and S/N (mainly S/N = signal to noise ratio). Go to your digital channels and pull up this diagnostic screen. You want the S/N number to be 32 or higher. If it's below 32 then that is when you'll start experiencing tiling. At the top of that column it'll show you the frequency the channel is on.

Yeah, I was going to ask for page 5 as well. Let's see what your levels are Big.
