| reply to Edgar_man_boy A sad day indeed. I can't believe they trusted Bell way back in 2000... in my eyes, the writing was on the wall a loooong time ago. Too bad the CRTC/government closed their eyes and let Robbers/Hell almost 100Mhz of AMAZING spectrum.
*sigh*

| reply to Edgar_man_boy Does this mean LOOK will permanently shutdown its TV/Internet operation, or continue under new ownership?
Back when I subscribed to cable TV, I remember considering LOOK. Guess it's now just Bell or Videotron (and VDN in some areas) in Montreal then. |

VDN fiber was owned by Gaz Met (Gas metropolitan), Bell bought them.
so VDN = Bell now
Look = new ownership, seems like parts are being cut up for Cell and other stuff. So there will be lost services.

I'm almost certain the equipment will be dismantled and Rogers will use the spectrum for their current wireless businesses. Everyone who was hoping to avoid Bell/Rogers/Starchoice etc. will no longer have an alternative. |

| reply to Edgar_man_boy For the fun of it, I called Look this afternoon to ask if I could order their TV and/or Internet in Montreal. They told me they're no longer signing up new customers--none at all, period. They also wouldn't even tell me if someone will be taking over their wireless network for existing customers, just that they're in a transition period.
I take it they'll just cease their services in the near future and you'll have to order Bell or Videotron. |

| The announcement was quite clear. The Look technology will NOT be reused.
Some articles also question whether that spectrum will actually go to Inukshuk. Rogers is rumoured to want some of it for its LTE deployment.
(Bell and Rogers are co-owners of the former Microcell/Fido venture).
Note that Inukshuk is NOT WiMax. It is a pre-Wimax technolgy dating from well befrore Intel starts to work on the real WiMax.
CLEAR.COM is the usa is deploying real WiMax.
If Bell and Rogers intend to develop LTA or WiMax for their mobile networks, it does not show much of a lopng term future for Inukshuk's older techology.
But in terms of Look, it is the end of the line for that technology, except probably for some isolated cases where communities have only this tech available due to their remote location. |

1 edit | reply to Fergless Still no sign of Rogers free TV yet, lots of Rogers people in the Lobby though.
Edit: Spoke too soon, Rogers cable was hooked up on Saturday. Much better than Look TV. + Free is Good. |
