Intermittent connectivity?

I've been seeing something odd for the last couple weeks: Occasionally, a website will just stop working and then resume working within 10-15 minutes. I thought at first it was a bad ethernet cable or a DNS issue but I am starting to think it is an Akamai issue. Today, it was with www.reddit.com. I have a virtual server elsewhere and was able to access www.reddit.com just fine via that but locally, it failed to respond. I did a traceroute and found the end point for www.reddit.com was:

h216-165-163-43.216-165.unk.tds.net

Obviously, this is conjecture and hand waving at this point but has anyone else noticed anything similar? I am going to keep doing traceroutes when the problem comes up to see if it is always an Akamai box.

And now it is back again. This is definitely Akamai. The URLs at www.reddit.com eventually fail to load and one receives something like this:

An error occurred while processing your request.

If you open a web browser to »216.165.163.43/, you'll see a similar response (but an error for the obvious reason of trying to access the Akamai box directly instead of via a content-network-distributed-cached URL).

It appears that all of my DNS problems have resolved themselves. (No pun intended.) TDS is back to their normal selves.

I'm in Madison and this is just getting old with TDS. I see you have the same issue in Monroe I'm having up here. I think I'm going to switch to Charter 20MB for the same I'm paying for this 6MB service. It's been getting praise here in Wisconsin. My neighbor has Charter and really likes the service. I've been putting up with TDS for too long.

When everything is good, my connection flies. These times of good are being outweighed lately by poor, slower than normal connections. I too have had trouble with the website thing working/not working and many blank pages or having to click multiple times on a link. This is a recent problem.

In addition, I have had horrible connectivity problems for the last 3 weeks or so. My router will not train, or trains at much lower speeds than my plan. Often the router will claim I am connected at my normal speed yet the web crawls along like I am on dialup. (confirmed with a speedtest at blazing 50k speed) The settings I have used for over 5 years work intermittently, or will no longer work - I used to use MMODE, now will only connect using GDMT, etc. I get many "red lights" on the router.

I have checked and rewired everything on my end. AT&T even came and rewired from the NIC back to the big main telephone box. I think it is worse now than before!

I know that the trouble is on TDS's side. I submitted a trouble ticket and it was closed with no problem found. If I had any choice I would switch.
