Re: Two year customer coming up on renewal...

i can't put it in front of my router. my router is an Actiontec FiOS router using MOCA (co-ax). It is on it's own LAN segment behind the Actiontec though, not sharing it with any of the other PCs. The only other thing I can think of is to put it in the DMZ, but I'd rather not...

Sorry if I missed this earlier, but did you put it in the DMZ just for testing?

The only thing that changed the "Hello?... Hello?..." problem was switching providers. Everything else stayed the same.

I wonder what that means?...

The reason I left VT was the cost recovery and other fees that they charged. They even attempted to charge these fees on prepaid customers before they even dreamed up the bullshXX fees.
Gives a new meaning to "prepaid" , they lost a user here who racked up maybe 300 minutes a month. Luckily my new provider has been very reliable, and no monthly add ons

Enjoy it while it lasts. It seems one by one providers are going to detailed billing.

I am in a similar situation. My 2 year deal is nearing the end of its term. That said, I am in the process of dropping VT (like a bad habit). Technically I am still in my free year, but I am so tired of the monthly fees I am being charged, even though I had pre-paid for 2 years. When I get around to it I am going to ship my VT supplied PAP2 back with a note requesting cancellation (their support agent said that would work just fine).

I bought my own PAP2 on Amazon.com for about $50. I am now on the pay per call plan with Callcentric and could not be an happier. Their service is stable and the bills are predictable. I have my eye on one of their dirt-cheap DIDs in my area.

Everyone's needs are different, but for me Callcentric's features, flexibility and pricing are a perfect fit. The only thing VT ever seemed to be able to do consistently was bill my card with a few $ in fees each month.

Uh, uh! ViaTalk's cancellation policy specifically requires you to cancel service via an on-line TroubleTicket. There are no cancellation penalties if you are within your free year ... but you may pay a penalty if you do not return the VT-supplied adapter. When you submit the TT, be sure to include your Credit Card (or payment method) info ... specifically the first 4 and last 2 numbers of your credit card (or something like that) in the same format as shown in your MyAccount webpage ... which as I recall when I cancelled the last of my many VT accounts was something like 1234*56.

actually, i half wonder if it's the ATA....my inlaws who live 10 miles from me w/ the same ISP are using VT's ATA with no issues whatsoever.

Did you get a chance, as suggested, to call VT and have them look at the latency to your ATA?

When I first singed with VT I used my Innomedia ATA and had that Hello-Hello issue. Changed to the older AC-211 and that issue went away until my router induced 1000ms latency and the Hello-Hello returned. Have changed ATAs and routers since then and all is well.

So I checked my legacy billing and found this:

2007-07-16 11:12 PM 228.95

I was a sunrocket refugee too, and did the buy one year, get one year free deal.

So does that mean I "own" my adapter? I really thought I did, but dont want to be penalized if I dont give it back.

EDIT: Found this:

Select An Adapter: Linksys 2-Port Adapter - FREE

So looks like I own mine, I think.....

We do not charge for adapters as long as you are an active ViaTalk client. In most cases the equipment is returned when someone cancels. Adapters can be purchased outright for $50 if you wish to own one. blacknoi, in your case, your adapter would need to be returned to us - or you can contact billing to purchase it for $50 if you'd like.
