well, i'm looking if theres an affordable way to have computer access in 6 rooms. only need access from one room at a time. distance computer to screen would be max 200 feet for the wires i suppose |

| If "affordable" is part of the equation you're a lot better off buying some used wireless laptops or new netbooks and running MSTSC or another remote control program to access the main computer. Good KVMs are notoriously overpriced, and the cabling would be a hassle.

Honestly, it sounds like you're overengineering the solution here. You don't need a monitor/keyboard in every room when a laptop with a wireless card can follow you from room to room. I'm guessing all you're looking to do is surfing/mail (?) and you don't need a super-fast laptop for that. -- We could use the £5,000 to buy a spoon. And then fill up with ice cream. |

| reply to jonasgeorge Nice laptop would do that for you just fine. But I see your point. You'd have to buy that switch and have lots of wire going everywhere - hope you're good at drilling. Have a vacuum handy so the wife doesn't kill you when she sees the drywall mess that you just created.

Also, look at what happens if the computer that is in a locked room goes down, or someone in another room decides to do something with it elsewhere. |
