I also struggled to resolve this problem with ATT support with no success and luckily found this thread. Entering the ATT DNS server IPs in my Mac's Network settings temporarily works around the problem, but is not a workable solution since I need to use different DNS servers when I'm at work vs home.
Today I got through to an ATT Tier 2 support tech who was very knowledgeable, but unfortunately he hadn't heard of the problem and couldn't find any record of it nor a fix. I told him about hard coding the DNS server on the laptop. He said he'd been having a similar problem at home and was going to try it tonight himself!
He said any new firmware would be automatically pushed to the RG and that new builds aren't very frequent. There hasn't been one yet in the year he's been at ATT.
Another workaround may be to set the RG to DMZ+ mode and just set up my own router to hand our DHCP with the correct ATT DNS server IPs. |

| Running a router in DMZ mode is probably the simplest method of working around it if you can't hardcode the DNS IPs.
Just remember to hardcode the DNS in your router. -- AT&T U-Hearse Your funeral. Delivered.

Just remember to hardcode the DNS in your router. I cant get my linksys wifi g router to work in DMZ+ mode, I guess I should probably ask this in a different thread, but Its rather embarrassing I have tried and to no avail will it work. Also even before I plug in my linksys into the RG occasionally says It has detected another router on my network.... and their is not. I just tell it to not display that message again.
My network consists of
One pc running apachi, no-ip client, filezilla server, and php server wired (windows xp home) (Not in dmz plus mode, I need local access to this machine.)
My main desktop wired (windows 7)
My second desktop wireless (windows 7)
My laptop wireless (win xp pro)
My dads laptop wireless (win xp pro)
Our media PC wired (win xp home) - only use hulu desktop
2 iphones

| To hard code the ATT DNS servers in your connections wired/wireless in the lower right corner of your Windows taskbar. Double click the wired (do the wireless one next if installed and active) connection, click 'properties', double click 'internet protocol (TCP/IP)', leave 'obtain IP address' alone. chose 'use the following dns servers' , plug in 68.94.156.1 and then 68.94.157.1, then click 'ok', then 'ok' again and 'close'. For good measure bring up a command prompt and run 'ipconfig /flushdns' then press 'enter', you should be good to go w/o any page load or graphic load problems or 'looking up...' waiting times.

| reply to David SOOO happy I found this thread. I got UVerse about a month ago, with the TOP tier internet, and thought I was going crazy. I have a 2.8GHz dual core iMac over Wifi, and the page loads were KILLING me - speed tests were pretty normal, but page load speeds were horrible. Sometimes they would only half load, or miss images.
Was about to start calling ATT, but figured I'd get a runaround about having a mac, or that my wifi was no good, etc etc, since the speed tests are pretty normal.
Will try hard coding the DNS servers tonight...THANK YOU (in advance!)
This BUG is unacceptable. |

| reply to David This forum thread helped me understand a very frustrating problem. I decided not to wait for an AT&T solution so I set the RG to DMZ + and am using an Airport Extreme as our router and wireless device. The load times seem to be faster, but I am wondering if I still need to add the DNS servers to either the Airport Extreme or the individual Macs and PCs?
Thanks for your assistance. |

| If you are having any slow page or graphic loads, would be good to hard code into Macs and PCs, overrides any other DNS setting, so no need to do router. W/Macs a little different than PCs from what I've read.

Someone tell me, if I use a different router and/or modem, thus taking the 2wire out of the loop, will that solve the problem? |

gdm Premium,MVM join:2001-06-15 Mchenry, IL clubs: | You can't get a different modem. The 2wire is the only one that works for U-Verse. You could get a third party router and stick the IP of your third party router in DMZ+ mode. Code the DNS in that for your PC equipment. |

| reply to David As every one's fix seems to be to configure each computer to use open DNS has anyone tried changing the 2wire's DNS server to use open DNS instead of the one assigned by your ISP? If this was tried what were the results? Another thing to consider is if these issues are isolated to a specific region. |

The fix is to hardcode a DNS server IP address into the computer, rather than using the gateway as a DNS proxy. It has nothing to do with AT&T's DNS servers vs. anybody else's. |

I have a feeling AT&T realizes that the 2wire modems aren't capable of something simple like this and needs to replace a whole lot of hardware. This is not a critical priority 1 issue. First, most people (e.g. me) are running fine. I don't have any Macs (although I have an iPod Touch which works fine).
Second, there is an easy workaround which completely fixes the problem. Simply hardcode the DNS server IP addresses in your TCP/IP configuration. Done.
If you don't know how to access your TCP/IP configuration and change the DNS server addresses, well, just google a bit and I'm sure someone out there has step by step instructions with screenshots for your operating system. |

@sbcglobal.net | Just because it seems like it is running fine, does not mean it is. This issue affects everyone with u-verse services, it is not hit or miss. The casual user may not notice the interrupts and slow downs in loading, and think it is normal. |
