The other router does its own DNS proxying/caching ... anyway, we're getting off-topic. More to the point - can anyone explain why this keeps getting UN-STICKIED!! |

@sbcglobal.net | reply to David Probably because ATT and 2Wire have no plans to correct this issue. They apparently feel the workaround is a sufficient fix, so why keep beating a dead horse. |

Excuse me if this is a stupid question.
I've added the AT&T DNS servers (68.94.156.1 & 68.94.157.1) to my Macbook and am still experiencing issues. Does that mean that the DNS issue is not what is causing my problems? |

I had to make some change to tell my wife's macbook to ignore DNS servers from the DHCP server and use the specified servers for it to work properly. |

| reply to David since about a month my internet file download has come to a crawl speed -so has the web pages. the strange part of this is that early in the day it is around 300kb while it drops to about 20k by around 5pm (I'm in california).
my email (both yahoo & MS exchange) takes for ever to refresh
talked to ATT&T techs - flushed DNS, hardcoded the DNS to 68.94.156.1 & ---157.1 with no luck
my signal strength is excellent
looked at my system setup - it is claimed to be around 3Mb
Any help is appreciated

1 edit | You doing it just for the DNS correct? You shouldn't enter anything for the IP information.
How are you trying to access the two wire?
Typing home, 2wire or 192.168.1.254 into your browser?
One other thing is I'd try clearing your browser cache. |

It's pretty sad this is still a problem. FWIW, I've also tested non-uverse 2wire boxes on a friend's dsl line and found the same problem to exist there. And it's not necessarily a mac-only issue - if you fire enough requests at it from the cmdline of a linux box you can easily DOS the DNS proxy on the 2wire box. It'd be nice if AT&T would step up for a change before this problem has it's 1 year anniversary in a few months. |

1) Lots of people (like me) don't have any such problem. It seems to be limited to specific kinds of PCs or OSes.
2) OpenDNS has nothing to do with it. You could also simply hardcode the AT&T DNS server IP addresses in your PCs and get the same effect. |
