You know, I have often wondered why companies ignore issues like this. Why does it take a site like DSLReports to make AT&T sit up to realize that there an issue? -- Tom

U-verse has been around for a couple years now, and it's taken this long for enough of us to notice it's a systemic problem! Plus, it impacts some more than others. I still want to know why it seems to impact Macs more than PCs. That's a very good point as well. Plus coding the DNS on the PC also fixes the problem. SO essentially like I stated "take the black box out of the plane, and no one will notice till it crashes, that the box was missing." -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. If you worried about your information put a third party router up behind the RG in DMZ and they can't see that info.

1 edit | I've noticed since I've gotten U-Verse (had it about 2 months now) that browsing is slower then when I had AT&T DSL. When I download files it's very fast. But regular browsing to web pages seems slower than with my old DSL connection.
Also, coping files between PC's is VERY slow...it was much faster with my old Linksys router.
My DSL download speed was 1.5, the U-Verse download speed I'm paying for is 6.0 (although when I test it on DSLReports [SpeakEasy] I only get close to 3.0, but on speedtest.net I get close to 6.0).
Is this the same type of behavior you folks are seeing? I didn't quite understand the "fix" mentioned in this thread.
Any info to help improve my browsing speed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| Good news on this fix. I had noticed very slow DNS resolving when browsing lately, and for some reason it was more noticeable in Google Chrome, which I now use for most of my usual daily browsing. Since reading this thread, I set the various PC's in the house to use OpenDNS and pages load much, much faster. The only problem I ran into w/ OpenDNS however was that the gateway.2wire.net URL was no longer accessible, though the IP address works fine. (I ended up putting an entry in my hosts files to fix that.) | |

| I went to the AT&T System Summary Page. While looking around I went to Broadband Link->Diagnostics page and notice my DNS Communications had a message that it couldn't find the domain name server. I clicked the "Test" button on the page and after a few minutes the test was done and now my DNS Communication reads "UP". Since then my browsing is night and day faster.
I may be being "super noobie" here, and folks may have already tried this, but just wanted to pass the info along that this resolved my slow browsing problem.

I was ready to switch back to Comcast _after_ paying more to upgrade my U-verse service. Come to find out it was bad code on the 2wire for something as stupid as DNS! I don't think you understand how many people will be delighted when this fix comes out. It's a night and day difference w/ web browsing.

| I'm waiting too... but I may have a different issue altogether. OpenDNS or not, I notice NO difference.
my issue is usually in Safari (mac 10.5.7) loading a series of bookmark pages, say 10 pages.. the spinning wheel keeps going for quite a while. sometimes it's faster than others..
when opening home page, cnn.com, it's blazing ONLY if Safari already opened. when opening safari for 1st time since reboot, there is a delay, as with all programs accessing the web for whatever reason..
this probably should have been posted in the general section, so I apologize in advance.

| I'm a new U-verse customer in the past couple of weeks, but I noticed the same problem with slow page loading, as well as the solution using OpenDNS.
I have a 2Wire 2800 HGV-B gateway, running system version 5.29.105.94.
Setting the local DNS servers to OpenDNS on my Macs solves the issue, but I look forward to a system fix.

| Re: We got some news!-05/06/09 Slow Web Page Loading To hard code the ATT DNS servers in your connections wired/wireless in the lower right corner of your Windows taskbar. Double click the wired (do the wireless one next if installed and active) connection, click 'properties', double click 'internet protocol (TCP/IP)', leave 'obtain IP address' alone. chose 'use the following dns servers' , plug in 68.94.156.1 and then 68.94.157.1, then click 'ok', then 'ok' again and 'close'. For good measure bring up a command prompt and run 'ipconfig /flushdns' then press 'enter', you should be good to go w/o any page load or graphic load problems or 'looking up...' waiting times.

| ATT and 2Wire need to get of of their collective a$$es and start treating this issue seriously. This problem seems to be getting worse as more people are beginning to discuss this on different forums. I personally have been watching my page loading getting slower and slower and nothing has changed on my connection stats. Matter of fact, I got better performance from my old ATT DSL than I'm getting from Uverse, hard coding DNS has little or no effect. | |

I think the next fix they have in mind is going to fix the problem permanently (a firmware revision).

| Re: We got some news!-05/06/09 Slow Web Page Loading I've been fighting with AT&T support on this issue off and on since we got Uverse ~4 months ago. And we're a business account which didn't seem to help much. After 157 minutes on the phone with support yesterday, I was ready to throw in the towel. Can't believe I missed these threads until now.
An easy solution to implement in the faulty 2wire boxes would be to allow them to set alternate or secondary dns servers to be pushed to the dhcp clients. Most all major home network boxes provide this. Our 2wire box (3800HGV-B) seems to know about the 2 sbcglobal dns server ip's (68.94.156.1, 68.94.156.2) ... but doesn't push them to the clients.

| The thing is, no one knows when this "permanent fix" will be implemented, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or if will even work. I'm on the 6/1 tier and some pages load like it was dial up! As it stands now, their high speed internet is not all that high speed and if they don't resolve this issue soon they're going to start losing customers. | |
