Noticed tonight that I started receiving bad data from that server; every file was corrupt/incomplete.

Anyone else have this problem? It was working fine before.

it's not an ipv6 newsgroup.

it offers binaries along with text.

cog.
is there a download limit for binaries on that site^?

That's awsome, quick question though, is it an ipv6 newsgroup?

This thread has mostly morphed into free binairies via ipv6...
Teranews is a no brainer setup - add server, no username or password needed. Done, Connect.

Was getting 150 KB/s from it on a test last night, not bad for the easy of trying it out.

Recommended for anyone new and curious about usenet. Serious enough, want more speeds? The IPv6 free test servers are still rocking. A bit more time setting it up, but more speed and server choices.

You may want to send an IM to l0thar and see if its up. They may have gone "pay" as it was quite reliable, and they could charge something for it.
Eweka has been up, a bit slow sometimes but has great retention. Completed a series posted 385 days ago from them.

XSnews had been stable and fast, consistent for months on end for me. Lately, they have been on/off, off for some days, back again.

Newszilla is an ISP internal newserver, so it has smaller storage and only holds files for a short time. Their speeed has gone up from the old 3x50KB/s, but a lot of things are not there.

i'm not going thru 16 pages to find out if it's been posted or not -

I just setup this free binaries server:

public.teranews.com

and I have TSI's free news. between the 2 there are ~107,000 groups. other ppl have mentioned 2mb max off TSI, and I can get at least the same off teranews.

teranews allows 3 connections, no username/password.

i see there are sites like astraweb offering newsgroup service for say $10/month, and i think TSI also offers usenet for $4/month along with mlppp. so why do people subscribe to other usenet/newsgroup services? are they faster or carry more content? what client/program do i use to download?
Same content, but faster, more concurrent connections, often with encrypted connections. Also paid providers have much longer retention, so content are available much longer on many paid providers than on Teksavvy's service.

xsnews hasn't been working for me for several days now,
eweka works very well
newszilla6 works but only on recent file, i think their server has low retention, maybe 20/30 days i don't know

I have been able to get newzilla to work for me. It is about half the speed I can get with xnews because of the limit on connections. eweka I am still having very little luck.

When it was on it I used Newszilla almost exclusively.

I never got xnews working but I did have intermittent success with Eweka...

I really like the idea of free binairies to leech off of, but there's a reason why in the end I chose a pay usenet server.

Cause there's someone I can yell at if something goes wrong.

You and I both feel pretty much the same about it. I have astraweb at 11.00 per month. Great service.

So I humoured you and me and I tried "green" and "green" and it didn't work. I then went back to no password and it seemed to keep downloading for a little longer than the usual 2 minutes but then eventually stopped. xsnews was up for a little while which was working well again. I just like to fiddle with the freebies but it does get frustrating some times.
