| Anyone here use SABnzbd? I keep getting the error where I can't access the SABnzbd web interface using localhost:8080 or any other port. I've tried 127.0.0.1 as well. I'm trying this using ipv6 with the tunnelbroker account. I'm on XP SP3 and I've tried disabling my firewall. Anyone? |

I full my 5mbps connection perfectly, eweka is uptp 20mbps on 4 threads.
If someone have others free Binaries NNTP servers, feel free to share
Edit »www.tunnelbroker.net toronto server is nice
I don't know that much about usenet/newsgroup, but I have read enough recently to give it a go.
I know I need a static IP with usenet/newsgroup access to connect to usenets via TSI, but is it the same deal with other newsgroups (like # newszilla6.xs4all.nl:119, # news.ipv6.eweka.nl:119)? I already created an account on www.tunnelbroker.net to get IPv6 working, but does my IP need to be static to connect to them? I was planning on using SABnzbd+ for all my newsgroup needs.
Can someone give me a link to another post in this forum where I could get a rundown on how to connect, how it works, etc... I'm sure someone on the forum posted something in the past. |

1 edit | Thanks for the post, but it wasn't exactly what I meant. Since I can't put anything into practice until later this evening (at work), my question was (is): is it as simple as opening SABnzbd+ and enterring the usenet address (#newszilla6.xs4all). I know this is a bad example because it's IPv6 and that includes using a tunneling website like »www.tunnelbroker.net or »go6.net
Do I need a static IP, in general, to use usenet/newsgroup. Can I test free servers that I find using my dynamic IP or will I have to call TSI to get a static IP first? |

Including the IPv6 ones. |

| reply to El Quintron I'm splitting that Astraweb account with a friend, only pay $7.00/month and our paths rarely cross. I also recommend doing that. We used to split a giganews account back in the day when it was about $30/month. -- I love fish sticks. I love putting fish sticks in my mouth. |

Just so I know, if I get TSI's static IP + newsgroups, how do I get access to "http://www.usenetserver.com"? Does TSI give me a login/pass? Do I create one myself on the website? They know to let me connect because of my new static IP? |

| TSI adds your new fixed IP to the allowed clients for their binaries newsserver.
they will give you details for the server name to use, it's a .teksavvy.com machine, that URL is redirected to a usenetserver.com one on the fly.
It's really simple on your side, no username or password required, just you being in the valid IP allows you in. |

On the setting up ipv6 front - I have obtained a new SixXs account (a lot more complicated, you have to disclose personal information, etc).
Was expecting it to be better than the so-easy to setup, no hassles Gateway6 (Freenet6) account. Turns out I was wrong!
- I get much better speeds from any of the ip6 news servers via Gateway6 connection. (220 KB/s sixxs, ~280+ KB/s via Gateway6)
- The latency is a lot better too :
xsnews.nl, latency via G06 around 150 ms; latency via SixXs - 250 ms or worse.
Never got TunnelBroker (Hurricane Electric) to work for me yet, but Gateway6 is the best so far. Really easy setup and connectivity, no hassle to create accounts or tunnels, works faster, top speed.
And we access it via Montreal's gateway, avoiding a trip to the USA located points of presence that SixXs is offering today (that trip might explain the extra latency and lower performance for me).
Gateway6's locations are very handy for us Canadians, one server in Montreal, the other in Amsterdam, really close to those nice ipv6 free nntp servers.
Gateway6 is Highly recommended. Forget about SixXs. |

| Heum you tried the tunnelbroker settings thing?
Under windows or linux?
Tunnelbroker have a way better latency in my case, TSI being located in torix and the tunnel is in the building, about 0.5-4ms added.
Keep in mind I'm from Laval,QC so there is 20ms added, and my line is fully loaded.
Tunnelbroker Toronto server
Freenet6 Mtl server, might be an excellent choice for people with MTL based isp.

| reply to corkyy hei, corkyy,
Yes, I have tried using the netsh commands (for Windows machines) from the Tunnelbroker page. Did nto work for me, although it might be due to my system having a lot of services disabled, etc for best performance.
I should try it again, from my laptop or another machine in the house.
Wow, you are really close to the Toronto HE server. It takes me 11 hops to reach montreal.freenet6.net. It's 13 hops to the SixXs server I use as access point. |

Setting up Gateway6 is so easy I would recommend it to anyone with some curiosity; you can have it running in a very short time. |

Make sure ICMP is not blocked on the computer (firewall, AV, windows firewall) and on the router also, you "may" look unreachable... |

1 edit | Thanks, corkyy!
I rebooted into another op. system to try again, and got it working now.
Just configured a new tunnel with HE, and it's working at full speed, just like the Freenet6 for my news download.
Did move my system into the DMZ in the router, for testing at least, although i would prefer not to leave it there.
But you got to test things out.
Amazing how simple it is to get an HE tunnel and connect, on this windows 20003 server the netshell commands are instantaneous, substantially faster than in my usual xp64 environment.
I like the simplicity of it too - no client software needed, no funky TAP drivers, no 'virtual network adapters' complaining about a cable being unplugged.
Got to see if I can change back to a more firewalled mode and still keep it going.
EDIT: got my system off the DMZ, and it's still working fine with HE tunnel - this is nice. |
