Re: Chainsaw safe usage

You've been given some good advice for using a chainsaw on the ground. but if your thinking of leaving the ground with one I strongly advise against it. there are different types of cuts and rigging techniques that you need to use to stay safe.

It's not something you can learn on an internet forum, or even watching a video. My advice hire a professional, or befriend one and maybe he will teach you how to go about it.

edit: Whether you're on the ground or in the tree never cut above shoulder height keep the saw in your power zone between your chest and your knees.

Good luck which ever route you choose.

when removing the branches and other items, the gloves help and loose the ring. it happens when you pick up the log and it slips, it catches the ring and shreds the meat off. i have seen this way too many times. if you need the bling then sit on the couch.

as far as chain saw goodluck with that. i have a little experience, basically take your time, if you feel rushed, delay job till another day..

Have a friend who used to own a mower shop. First timers would ask about chain saws and he would show them one and tell them about the "automatic cut-off" feature. "What's that?" they would say. He would then tell them "any part of you it touches, it automatically cuts it off".

From the sounds of things, you already are aware of the basics. Goggle "bore cut", it's the safest way to cut down a tree, although a rotted tree will still be a problem. And you still have to evaluate the tree to hope it'll fall where you want it to.

Advising an inexperienced chainsaw operator to use a bore cut isn't good idea, there's a high risk of kickback and it's really not needed except on severely leaning trees to prevent barber chairing.

Have used chainsaws some now. Shown a few time safe usage. However, now currently still in urban area. Not near my wife's family and land where others can show me more.
So using on small property for some out of control trees. Know the basics and basic safety.
