Foldy2 has been shut down due to bad storms coming in tonight, and my building's A/C is out of service due to a blown fan motor. I'll bring it back online once the A/C is repaired.

I don't know if "love" is the right word for Mid-Missouri weather...

UPS batteries have been replaced, and the software is running OK.

Foldy2 is back up and running. I have the new UPS batteries, and will install them tomorrow afternoon when I get home from work. I have already installed apcupsd on foldy2 and set it up.

Here we go again. When the lightning picks up a little more, Foldy8's taking a brief nap. We're due to get some pretty nasty storms through here shortly.

This is how I have all of mine configured. I'll bring the damn things back up when I'm ready. I've barbecued a power supply or two due to over-cycling before I changed those settings.

Speaking of those UPS units, I learned a hard lesson back in December 2006 when we had a power outage. Mine were all on good UPS units, but I hadn't bothered to install the included software, had not configured them to operate other than at default.

Default, apparently, just shut the computer down when the power went off and then restarted shortly after it returned. That had always worked fine for me, but that 2006 storm caused multiple power events in rapid succession which resulted in murdering most of the equipment I had up and folding at the time.

I have a smaller farm now, but I have configured my UPS software to shut down after a short power outage and to stay down until I manually bring it all back up. I am hoping that is a safer plan.

I don't know if that is possible for all UPS units. I run APC SmartUPS with PowerChute software.

It's starting to thunder here, so I'll be shutting down Foldy2. It's connected to a UPS, but the batteries on it are no good, and I don't trust them. I'll bring it back up when the storms are past.

Not taking any chances with Foldy8 - severe thunderstorm warning just went into effect, so I am unplugging Foldy8 from the power grid until this line of storms rolls through.
Yes, I need to get a UPS.
