Speed test says 6.67Mb/s , never break 800kB/s

I have had knology almost a year now, I have run speed tests a lot and they always report around 6.67Mb/s , but my downloads usually max out somewhere in the 700KB/s range. Is this normal?

Yes, that's actually pretty close.
6.67Mbps = 6830.08kb or 853.76kB according to...

There may also be a little overhead with the downloads and the packets.

I wish my 6Mbps was that fast!

My average download speed is anywhere from 6.0-6.4 MB/s. Supposedly, I am supposed to get upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 soon though.

They are not moving to DOCSIS 3.0 until there competition does so first they have clearly stated this in the last two earnings calls. I'm sure the CMTS's will be upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 readiness however.

There two main reasons behind this move are, one that none of there competitors have a competing product deployed in there markets and, two they currently do not wish to spend the capital involved in the purchase of DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems and the truck rolls to install them.

Mediacom has a 20/2 premium tier available where they compete with Knology in Columbus, GA and possibly Huntsville, AL. Although Mediacom hasn't deployed 3.0 yet, they're being a whole lot more aggressive with the technology they have in place than Knology is. Not to mention their standard tier is 8/512 compared to Knology's 6/384.

There's two reasons I'm sticking with Knology. Their service dependability beats Mediacom hands down and Knology bundles phone/internet while Mediacom does not. I work for DirecTV, so I don't need any of their crappy TV services!
