 | Is 1and1.com down? Anyone else having trouble accessing 1and1.com? Can't get to the site or my domain's emails.
I tried calling their support line but I could not understand the heavily accented (Indian?) rep that answered the phone so I have no idea what is going on. |
|
 | I've not been able to access 1and1 Control Panel or e-mail accounts from 11:00 EDT Friday. I am unable to reach customer or technical service. The phone lines to headquarters and technical service are overwhelmed. |

 | reply to Trekker Hi,
Some parts are functional but barely. I could reach "admin.1and1.com" but attempts to resolve "pop.1and1.com" return "unknown host". I would guess a DNS issue as I was able to access my email as of 7:30 a.m. (Pacific Time).
Anyone recall what IP address "pop.1and1.com" resolved to so we can ping it?
Thanks, Murray |

 | Hi,
Found the answer to my own question.
pop.1and1.com = 74.208.5.5
I pinged it and it responds. Changed my email program to use the IP address and I could download my email.
So their domain "1and1.com" is fubar.

 | Thanks Murray, any idea for smtp.1and1.com..
Thanks SD

 | I have a dedicated Linux server and e-mail that are working throughout the pop.1and1.com outage. I can now access admin.1and1.com for two accounts, but no e-mail headers from pop.1and1.com. |

 | reply to Trekker Just a post-mortem update.
On the day of the outage, May 8th, due to all of 1&1's phone lines busy, I submitted a tech support ticket via email. About 10 hours later, I got this response:
Thank you for contacting us.
Please do accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Regarding the issue, as of the moment our Admins have already resolve the issue. This is due to some issues with the network connection. Possibly that your ISP has updated their DNS Configuration. What you need to do now is just clear the cache of your DNS configuration of your connection and also restart your router or modem. It is also best that you clear the cache and cookies of your browser just to make sure.
I am guessing 1&1 changed their primary and/or secondary DNS servers or perhaps their DNS servers were down. I am still trying to figure out how my browser's cache and cookies have anything to do with my Linux router inability to resolve "pop.1and1.com".
Damn! Must be my ISP changing their DNS configuration at exactly the same time as ISP's all across North America. That may explain why so many 1&1 customers across (Atlanta; Texas; Bellaire, OH; Minneapolis, MN). What rotten luck that all of our ISP's decided to change their DNS configuration at the same time, preventing all of us from resolving "1and1.com" properly.
Methinks 1&1 is hoping I am ignorant enough that they can baffle me with technical BS.
I followed up, asking for clarification on what the issues were. On May 9th, I got the following response:
Please provide us the time on where you have checked that our pop.1and1.com couldn't be reached so we could further check it here in our end.
So even though I have a ticket number, which would imply that my original message, with outage details like date and time, is tracked in 1&1's support ticket tracking system, 1&1's tech support suddenly has no record of any outage and could I provide the exact time and date so they could find out if there was such any outage.
I gave up after this response as it was obvious 1&1's tech support was not going to provide an accurate, meaningful explanation. |

 | reply to Trekker It seems with these large companies, you never really get the best answer, typically it's vague and incomplete...that or the tech has no idea, and is to far down the ladder to find out what actually happened...because the heads do not want customers to know they screwed up.
They should honestly just release a notice saying what happened. -- »vivicalhosting.com -- affordable web hosting with 24/7 tech support ^_^ |

 | This is getting out of hand, my e-shop application with 1and1 has been down since yesterday May 20th around 12pm. I have decided to check again this morning to find out if this was fixed and now, even their main page 1and1.com is down. I am starting really to be worried since last time, they have lost all of my products data. I find that this company starts to prove it self unreliable and that i have to find another host for my biz. Any one else experiencing something similar?? ThanX |

 | reply to Trekker 1and1.com seems to work OK...albeit a LITTLE slow, it does load.
Maybe they are having network issues? -- »vivicalhosting.com -- affordable web hosting with 24/7 tech support ^_^ |

 | the main page is now active and i can log into my accounts. the issue is that my websites are not reachable and the situation is now persisting for more than 24h. I have called 1and1 tech support and their only answer was that they appologies for the inconvenience and that the concerned server is down. When asked about their SLA, the answer was to send an e-mail to the complaint department, which i did requesting a compensation... from my previous experiences with this Host I really do not think that something positive or even constructive will come out of all this... They are too big and became too self confident and arrogant. |
