Short term 3, maybe 5 years, they may do ok. Long term 5+ years they'll get squeezed.
I have to disagree with this one.

DirecTV has always been ahead of the curve with digital TV. I don't see them going away any time soon. Their picture quality is the best out there (I have not seen FiOS or U-Verse yet) but they have built a very strong customer base.

I am very pleased and wouldn't consider switching to anyone else.

I got nothing against Direct TV and there HD picture is the best out there but there SD quality is horrible

SD is pretty bad - I have to say I saw European providers 480 stuff that was amazing compared to DTV. Problem is cable does the same overcompression most of the time when they start going digital

EDIT - and one other thing, to refute the customer base thing: Sat will ALWAYS get the rual customers. Cable isn't everywhere. TelcoTV is even more limited.
