DirecTV future not all bright

I read some other news items that paint a less glowing appraisal of the 1st qtr results. They did add a lot of subscribers, but at the high cost of a 47% drop in profits year over year. And they are in the midst of a reorg with Liberty Media Corp(John Malone) to form a new corporate entity - an entity that will also own Sirius/XM.

So, DirecTV will be spun off from Liberty Media and form it's own company and stock. So what you may be seeing is a new entity with $2 billion in debt that Malone is sending along with his stepchild. »online.wsj.com/article/SB1241439···073.html And the big push in 1st qtr new subscribers is to put a nice coat of paint on the old car.

Yeah, the real reality is that profits are down (Though it shouldn't be surprising in this economy), rollout of new HD is basically frozen (Maybe a few added until then) until they launch satellite d12 and it's operational in 2010 (Which could have a large affect on their customer base, since they sell people to 'the largest hd service'), and you'll be paying more for service, while deals will go down.

With all this said, Directv is still a great service, but the real reality is alot different when your not listening to some guy who only wants to make a quick buck on day to day selling.
