 New Netgear router WNR3500V2?

Figures just only a week and a half after jumping back on the wireless-N Dual Band router bandwagon and purchasing a nice WNR3500 V1 router at about half price, I now see on the Netgear support website a Netgear WNR3500 V2. I wonder what is the change they did. FYI, my WNR3500V1 router is working solid ever since I fired it up. No major complaints about it yet. Only quirk I have is that my old legacy 802.11b devices (like my Sirius S100 wifi connection and my old Netgear WPNT511 adapters cannot make a connection to it). Other than that quirk, wireless connections have been stable and solid with decent all around signal around the house. So I don't know why the new change to V2 hardware now.

Anyone have the scoop on the differences between the V1 and V2 WNR3500 routers?

WNR3500 is single band. And I don't see a V2 of it on Netgear product page. But it could just some hardware revision. There's a dual-band, gigabit WNDR3700 that is "coming soon" and could be what I want all along. Hmm...

Hi, I too have my eye on that new dual band WNDR3700 router. It's a pity I already started buying all these older dual band routers when a whole new faster CPU more speed (450Mbs 3 streams) breed is soon to be released by various brand names.

Also, if you go look at the Netgear support page for the WNR3500 to download firmware updates... you will see they have two versions posted now (V1 and V2).

I have not been able to find any info on what the changes are at this time.

According to Netgear your 802.11b devices should connect.

Yes, I know. I got the Sirius Stiletto radio to connect by fluke chance only once when I first installed the Netgear WNR3500 router. But after I disconnected the radio since that time, never again would it associated and connect to this router again! It finds the SSID network says its strong, tries to connect and then fails to connect, all the time now. I run the router in Mixed mode b/g/n and am not about to lower the router speed to just b or b/g only. I have now two Linksys routers (WRT610N and WRT320N) and a new Dlink DIR-655 A4 router. The Sirius router has not problem connecting to the Linksys and Dlink routers. All routers set to mixed mode operation. So something is funky in Netgear's algorithm which refuses to recognize a connection request from the Sirius 802.11B radio. That's my only gripe though for this Netgear WNR3500 for my use. It has and is a solid strong reliable router for me. It has not ever dropped connections since I've had it running over a month now. I would recommend it for those searching for a reliable wireless 2.4Ghz N router. I am now trying out a new Dlink DIR-655 hardware version A4 and that one seems to be holding up very well also. But I've only had it for a day now... no drop outs with it neither, yet.

I don't know why Netgear put out a new WNR3500 V2 when the V1 is solid. Maybe cost reduction at play here. There is nothing wrong with the V1 by my experience with it.
