My 2 years was up today. I moved to month to month while I search for a better provider. The reliability issues are just not worth the low cost. I have to say that using Tomato firmware in my WRT54GL wireless router was a huge improvement. But I just cannot tolerate the exceedingly poor service from Viatalk when there were issues. A few times there were zero responses to my trouble tickets.
So I am assuming that VOIP in general is still a reasonable bet. I am not opposed to going back to a pots line if needed, but I want to give VOIP technology another chance.
If anyone has other great experiences with other providers, I'd like to hear about them. I will search the forums to see how they are rated as well.
reply to mikep_95133 I guess it's one of those cases where YMMV... I've had nothing but excellent service and performance from ViaTalk over the last 2 years. If a firmware change on your router made that much difference, I'm not sure how that could be ViaTalk's fault... With all the horror stories I see on the different forums about internet connectivity in SoCal, I'm not sure you'd be happy with any service that didn't have its own backbone (like Time-Warner's service.) Good luck!
