Problem with 5100b

It freezes while I play World Of Warcraft and I have to manually reboot by turning power off and on. It happens to steam games while searching for servers as well. Any help will be appreciated

If you are using peer-to-peer file sharing software and/or games requiring the browsing of a large number of servers

You need to limit the number of nat sessions through the software

Too many nat sessions will cause problems for most routers/modems

You can increase the number of NAT sessions (somewhat) that the modem can handle by setting the modem to be in "PPP on computer" or in "bridged" mode and let your router handle the PPPoE connection. The modem even in these modes still isn't a true bridged modem. It continues to load the connections into its NAT table, but because it isn't handling the PPPoE there is some additional memory available for that table.

I have tried what you guys have recommended to me and so far it still crashes. Maybe buying a new modem will fix it?

Did you update the Firmware?

What version shows as installed on the Web Interface?

Are you using a single PC hooked to the Modem?

Firmware updated to latest version and so far it still happens. It's really ridiculous

What Firmware version shows as installed on the Web Interface of your 5100?

Are you using a single PC hooked to the 5100 Modem?

Did you ever change your settings to PPP on your PC instead of in the 5100b as posted by d_l See Profile here? That is what I would suggest doing.

In your browser go to the following URL:

»192.168.0.1/

On the left, select the "Advanced" tab and under that select "PPP locations" which is the 2nd from the top. Then enter your access code (number on the bottom of the modem) and follow the dialog. Change to "PPP on the computer" or "bridge mode."

If you cannot access the modem GUI because you have a router in the way, the simplest thing is to disconnect the router and connect the modem directly to your computer's Ethernet port.

Good luck.

After you have made the changes as outlined by jmorlan See Profile in the 5100b, then you would, as the next step, need to setup a PPPoE connection in XP as seen here:

How to create a PPPoE connection in Windows XP
»support.microsoft.com/kb/283070
quote:
This step-by-step article describes how to install the PPPoE client and to create a PPPoE connection. Windows XP includes a built-in PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) client. The PPPoE client connection is a high-speed connection that uses hardware such as a cable modem or a DSL modem.

Set it up in PPP mode. Internet went down. Went to bridged mode. Everything went down and I had to hit the reset button. Is the only solution to buy a new modem?

That is correct, you have to create the PPP connection in XP and once you make it you "double click" the icon it made and then the Internet will work.

Test it with everything that caused you problems in the past. If you no longer have any problems like before then the "congratulations" rightfully go to you as you the one that asked the right questions, listened to the replies and made the changes to test a different configuration.

Couple problems here and their. When opening Steam I can't access the store or else steam will just freeze and I have to CTRL ALT DELETE but I can just order games over the web. Not a big deal, this also happens to Winamp as well but I never really used it anyway, Thanks again

What Firewall are you using? You may need to open ports for Steam.

I'd suggest reading through their FAQs and ask for Steam support.

I am using Windows Live Onecare. It was all fine before I set my modem up in a PPpoe client.
