Well im definatley dissapointed... Again the use of this at home is really nil (tho i was going to run my own exchange server)..
Outside of that, the only reason to get it os to have Uber net and make people in arkansas cry cause they cant get more then 18 meg Cable.. LOL..
I hope no one gets the service, which will require them to drop the install fee, or do like i said, Say its a $300 fee, but waive it with say a 1 year contract, or say Fee waived at install, so its just a merketing ploy...
For $300 i want the CV tech to vaccum, clean the toilet, do the dishes, rotate the tires on my car, and rake the yard..

It is bothering me so much becouse I know there is faster speed out there and I want it. However I look at it like this. Who's pocket does that money look better in mine or theirs? If it was say a $100 install fee or so I would have no problem with that but $300 + the cost of the tech visit is crazy. Anyway all of you who did order it keep us updated and let us know every single thing they do. If that tech sneezes I want to know. Not really but just keep us updated with the install as well as the speeds after. |

| reply to LJGoose i was just on the phone with sales.. yes there is a 300 buck act fee.. current triple play /w boost customers do not have the 35 buck int fee..
the 300 is not explained at all as to what its for or why its so high.. it cant be waived for any reason.. i didnt think to ask if it can be stretched out.. ill have to call back on that one..
im still trying to justify the 300 dollar cost tho.. i really want this service..
you get a static ip, and they have to come and deliver and setup a new docsis 3.0 modem, as your current modem will not handle the higher speed |

| reply to LJGoose I called to order this morning and when they told me about the $300 extortion fee I asked the guy what he was smoking this morning. That is just totally stupid. I will wait until fall when they have had very few people signing up and they start with self installs.
I don't see why they require "professionl" installation. Most of their techs are morons (at least in this area) and screwed up my "professional" install of OV when I first signed up for it. I had to arugue with them about the five holes they drilled in the side of my house to install one piece of wire. |

I asked about static IP and he said that would require a business "static" account (YYMV!) who knows. The guy wanted to tell me FIOS only goes at 50Mbit down and I wanted to smack him. Too bad only crappy Frontier is here otherwise I'd have both. :3 I was getting the install regardless of the $300 install. |

| reply to LJGoose Look, im as Pro CV as you can be with their service.. Paying them in excess of $200 a month for TV/Phone/Internet.. But i cant get on the wagon with this one..
As much as i want the service (who wouldn't), in this economy and these times of INsaine lavish spending on things that arent justified, how they can come out and ask a hard working man to spend $300 for a guy to come to my house, screw a coax line into the modem, check my signals, call the techshop and say, Ok activate it and test it from your end.. is MORE then assinine.. Its borderline Criminal..
I hate to say it, but its honestly making me think of going to the 50/20 Fios service, which you can get residential for $99 a month, and NO INSTALL FEE..
With the $45+ per month is was gonna run me for ultra, the $300 install fee is literally me paying for ultra for 7 MONTHS worth of service... HOW NUTS IS THAT...
I wish i could justify it, but a little birdie told me that the install cost is to them justified to keep the monthly cost down.. which i can understand from their end, but also its not like they are manufacturing something.. There just spittin bandwidth..
I need a beer. |

| reply to sbalea Well, that seals it for me. $300 is a deal-breaker. Like others, I would be prepared to pay the $99/month, and perhaps even the $35 "install fee". However, activation fees are pure BS. On top of that, $300?
Thanks, I'll pass until that comes down to $0 activation fee, and 1 modem that handles the Internet aspect and VoIP aspect.

That could be why they have the $300 install fee. |

They wouldn't take any chances sharing the coax LAN in your house with other equipment. Reduces the chances of faulty splits, bad termination, crappy wiring in general. |

However, activation fees are pure BS. On top of that, $300? I agree with you. I can see some possible reason for the $35 truck roll fee if the actual reason is that they want to test the line to make sure it can support Ultra. Delivery and hook up of the modem FOR EXISTENT OOL customers does not qualify unless the customer does not want to do a modem swap at the storefront and self-install.Thanks, I'll pass until that comes down to $0 activation fee, and 1 modem that handles the Internet aspect and VoIP aspect. They are supposedly currently certifying the VoIP SBV6220 so that will be offered "RSN". WHY they need to do a separate certification (unless it is for the VoIP on a Ultra circuit) is a question since they support the Non-VoIP version (the SB6120). |
