$90/month (or less) unlimited is actually better than contract unlimited, which will run you $100 + taxes + fees per month on VZ or ATT.
Now I'm certainly not defending AT&T as the cheapest out there. Virgin Mobile (Sprint CDMA) offers unlimited voice for $49.99 per month and unlimited messaging for $10/month on top of that. Boost Mobile offers $50/month unlimited everything (voice, messaging, web, walkie talkie) though the iDEN network can be spotty in places and internet on it is slow everywhere.
However I'm arguing that this is a step in the right direction. If someone REALLY wants to talk a lot and doesn't want to sign a contract and needs AT&T's coverage footprint or phone selection, they now have an option. If you talk an average of 20 minutes per day on the days you actually talk to people, and that talk is to non-AT&T subscribers (the $1/day plan has free M2M) the unlimited plan makes sense. That's 600 minutes per month if you use your phone every day. Yes, you can get cheaper prepaid service elsewhere (trust me, I work with those guys) but having it available from AT&T is still a good thing.
Anyway, seriously, $1/day for unlimited? You can't get cable VoIP for that little! You think wireless operators will be nicer to you? |
