Re: More broadband?

No matter how bad Satellite is it's better than dial up...

Depends on what you're doing, VPN is about the same speed and about $60 less...

Satellite is not an alternative for us.

Not if you factor in the price and increased frustration from the experience. It's almost insulting, I'd say... I used to think as you now do, but now it doesn't seem the case.

Huh? VPN? VPN isn't your connection to the internet. It's a Virtual Private Network via your internet connection.

We need VPN. Satellite such long latency that VPN over satellite works at dialup speeds.

Satellites doesn't work for us.

Back to my original point, some places have a multitude of broadband, some have no sources of broadband.

Multiple sources of broadband in an area dilutes the effective population density.

I'm just irritated that we can't seem to get broadband in this area. A local non-profit Wireless Internet Service Provider keeps taking grants to provide wireless broadband, but they only bring it to places bring it to places that already have cable Internet, DSL, and 3G.

If all those providers won't bring it to your area, then your area must not be as densely populated as you think or is otherwise undesirable.

That wasn't helpful. About as unhelpful as the rest of the posts.

Looks like BBR has gone downhill lately.

Not helpful and not what you want to hear are two different things. You weren't asking for a solution. Are you interested in how to solve the lack of broadband in your area? I'd be happy to link you to the WISP forum on here who could give you all the help you need starting a WISP and servicing your area.

Sat is junk plus it costs to much.

Go to verizon or sprint, I prefer verizon a lot more reliable, and get a 3G USB card and then go to 3gstore.com and get yourself the Kyocera kr2 and have internet for a lot cheaper than sat. Plus you can get external antennas for your home so you can make sure to have a very strong signal all the time which can get up to 1.4mb down.

I've rigged up a good amount of people who live in the country like that and it works perfectly.
