Beta Lab - Did I miss something?

Just saw a change to the CP that I know wasn't there yesterday and then I checked for info in the Beta Lab. Recent entries have moved to released and a new batch is listed under beta. They are:
quote:
Just Added Voicemail Notifications now available via AOL Instant Messenger.

Just Added Customizable Notification Formats let you change the text formatting on your voicemail alerts.

Just Added Blacklist by Caller ID allow you to block incoming calls by name using full or partial text matches.

Just Added Outgoing Call Routing lets you control what happens when certain numbers are dialed. Examples: Map 311 to a local number or block the kids from calling certain numbers.

Just Added Pattern Match Filters Whitelists - Use Pattern Match Filters with your Whitelist to allow groups of numbers to bypass existing filters.

Now I can block all the "800 Service" calls.

More testing later, but a couple things I saw:

I configured my notification format, but it only applies to SMS, not my Email. I would like to modify the Email message too.

Pattern match Whitelist - The whitelist has checkmarks for DND and Pattern match. When you create a new rule and check these boxes, the rule gets created without the boxes checked. This needs fixing.

Nice job though adding things that we have been asking for. The Pattern Match/Whitelist is an issue I had and asked for a while ago. Thanks!

I see. It will format the 'Additional Notifications', but does not format the Email address set up to receive a WAV file attachment of the message.

That seems like an oversight to me.

Maybe they should combine them. Just have a checkbox to include wav file.

Didn't notice this before but you have what I guess can be called selective Simultaneous Ring.

Its under incoming call routing.

New Addition - Simultaneous Ring
Choose SIMULRING as the route option and enter a number under Forward/Simul to have a call route ring an additional phone simultaneously.

Not an oversight - they're two separate mechanisms. Custom notifications were added primarily for use with SMS messages as many people requested different information to be included. That way people with simple SMS can customize their notification to say within 160 chars, and other people with mobile email can include more info if they want.

Originally, we had not planned on adjusting the primary email, however, I've started alpha testing this afternoon. This may be added as an update at some point in the future.

One problem I'm having(or I'm missing somthing) is the wildcard whitelist. I type 1AAA (a being area code), but won't take that, says it required 11 digits. Is there a specific wildcard that is not currently being listed as an example as to how to format it?

The Pattern Match checkbox on the Whitelist page allows a number that is blacklisted via pattern match filters to ring through to your phone. IE: If you have 518 blacklisted (via pattern matching) you can add 15189998888 as a Whitelist entry with Pattern Match selected. Then that number will be able to ring through to your phone. You'd still need to enter an 11 digit number.

Previously the Whitelist only applied to standard Custom Call Routes.

Edit: It appears this is mislabeled on the Beta Lab page. I'll make sure it's corrected tomorrow to avoid further confusion. Sorry about that.

A question on the Route by Caller ID Name feature. What CID Name info does it use? If you have defined a Custom CID name, will it filter on that or the CID Name info supplied with the call, or either?

Thanks.

I was wondering that myself.

Edit: Just tested it uses the real callerid info.

Correct. It will use the original caller ID information.

Route by Caller ID Name:

Should also have SIMULRING ring it it too.

I think..

Simultaneous ring isn't an option for Route by Caller ID name currently. We'll look into that further to see if it is a possibility for a future update.

What I was hoping for was the ability to whitelist via patternmatch. I use a Persistant DND...whitelist allows the numbers I want to go through to pass without being sent to VM due to the DND.

Such as It would be okay for a specific area code or area code+XXX to pass. Basicallly instead of blocking the calls I don't want on a case by case basis Everybody is blocked. Then I add Friend and Family and Businesses that I choose into the whitelist.

99% of the calls that I want blocked are not from my local area code.

We'll look further into that to see if it is something that can be added to the existing whitelist feature.

I would like to second XPAMD See Profile's request for a pattern match ability to the whitelist. I too have considered blocking all callers except those on a whitelist, but would like to add a list of NPA's without having to add every number from areas I expect calls.

I have another question as to how people would use the pattern matched Incoming call routing feature with the new Pattern match Whitelist.

I am trying to figure out if there is ever a situation where you would not want a number in your whitelist to ring through, even if it matched a pattern based rule in your call routing (DND excepted)? The DND check box makes perfect sense to me from the standpoint that the number should not be blocked by call routing, but not allowed to get through a 'nap time' (or whenever DND is set).

I would be happy to hear any scenario that I may not have thought of.

If I understand the feature correctly.

Say you route all calls from 1912555XXXX to voicemail
So in Route By Pattern Match Filters would have
1912555 going to voicemail
If you place the number 19125551234 in whitelist and click on pattern match it would allow that 1 number to ring your phone.
