Re: Any benefit to port out of CallVantage early vs late?

CallCentric can have calls forwarded if you don't have devices registered to their servers. No matter which plan you have (even if North America Unlimited), the call will be billed at per-minute rates (2 cents/min).

I do not know if Phone Power has this feature.

So, it costs me extra if the device is off the network? i.e. broadband outage, problem with TA, problem with CallCentric?

Yes, provided you had a four hour outage and received 10 five minute calls - that would cost you 50 minutes by 2 cent/minute = 1 buck. Please consider that our call treatments were not developed as a back up feature - it's just one of the [way too many] things you can do with them. Please view this thread from the beginning - it has explanations of some other applications one can do with call treatments. You may also read more by viewing Callcentric's WEB site.

I have read this thread. There was no mention specifically on my topic. My post was to add to the CallVantage porting benefits. I was hoping to find them with either of the two services mentioned in this thread.

Oh well, I will keep looking.

Yes, exactly the same question was asked earlier in this thread by Fisamo:
"Now, a question for you (not intended as a slam, a real question): Does CallCentric have any kind of 'failover' forwarding feature? In other words, if my internet connection goes down, will CallCentric bounce calls to a pre-determined number (e.g. my cell phone), or will the calls get some kind of error intercept? That is another critical feature for me."

My answer was:
In three words - yes, it does.
You may configure those same, earlier mentioned, Call Treatments to do anything you want. Yes, the call can failover to your mobile when your internet is down, it may also be sent to your office when your line is busy... You may call forward depending on time of day or day of week, you may send certain callers to fast busy or to voice-mail or anywhere else depending on their phone number (wildcards are allowed)... Tons or other things I can't even explain here.

If the above was not what you're looking for - please explain it and I'll try to find out for you.

Even though CallCentric's "network down forwarding" (though it's actually handled as a 'call treatment') costs per-minute, I would not consider it to be a drawback. (In fact, now that I know it's an option, it's raised them in my 'next provider' list.) After all, how often do you expect your service to be down? Generally, ATAs are pretty solid--rarely losing registration (with some notable exceptions, of course). Were you to purchase a PAP2T, you'd be in good shape there. If your ISP is flaky enough that you wouldn't like the extra cost of 'network down'-forwarded calls, your ISP isn't reliable enough for VoIP, IMO. (I think you're on TWC in Durham, right? I don't think their service is that bad... )

If you're determined to not pay per minute used for failover call forwarding, you might also consider Voipo and VoicePulse. Voipo does not charge for the forwarded calls, period. VoicePulse does not charge for them if you're on the America Unlimited plan (nationwide domestic calling), but if you're on the Local Unlimited + 200 LD plan, those calls cost 4 cents/min. So you're aware, the "local" area on VoicePulse's service is the entire state of NC (all area codes).

This thread illustrates the joys (and aggravations) of VoIP. There are many subtle differences among every provider out there, and no one provider suits everyone's needs.

Coming back to "Control by Phone" CV's feature - although obviously not one to one match, but Callcentric's Personal Calling Card feature allows performing lots of "star-code" functions including turning On/Off call treatments and many others, like controlling anonymous calling, repeating last call dialed or dialing back to the number the last call came from [call return], activating/stopping Do Not Disturb, accessing voice-mail, etc.; the full list of star/feature codes is available from the Dash (control) panel when you're logged into the account. In fact - if you have a configured call treatment rule forwarding calls to your mobile or other phones on specific occasions - you may turn on/off that rule by using feature codes punched when calling global or personal calling card number (well - I agree - the name of this function is not self-explanatory for one to understand all functionality behind it... we may consider changing the name from "personal calling card" to something better explaining what it does... perhaps something like "Remote Control"... (I'm afraid we can't reuse the name "Control by Phone" even though CV closes its doors ). By the way - the list of those features is [relatively] easy to expand - they're implemented by application server logic, out of main switching functionality - therefore just request via our trouble-ticketing system and our engineering may have grant them one day or other )

I am in the testing and evaluation stage for Callcentric. I need "Call Forwarding". The Call Treatments of Callcentric would meet my needs in that area if it had the option of "No Answer" and the option of combining the options. (It now has the options of "Any", "I'm on a call", and "Not registered".) For example, if I am out of my home-office I may want my cell-phone or POTS line to ring when there is either no answer or when the line is busy. Any chance Callcentric will provide such options in the future?
