AndrewNewton : I agree that Fios is a purely POTS implementation vis-a-vis your alarm system. However, our alarm company had inaudible "PulseNet" signals running back/forth over the copper POTS we used to have every six seconds to test their equipment and make sure the phone line hadn't been cut. A loss of such contact triggered an immediate police call (which happened several times, mainly when techs were on the pole and inadvertently pulled the pairs). When we switched to Fios, although the alarm could easily call back home to alert dispatchers et al. and the central group could easily call into the alarm for updates etc., the PulseNet capability broke. Turned out the alarm company implemented this with a frame relay tie to one CO which sent signals out from there to CPE. The Burlington Mass. CO where our Fios comes from was not set up to accept a third-party signal like that and Verizon wouldn't agree to make a change either by programming carriage from the originating CO to Burlington CO, or allowing the alarm company to insert directly into Burlington (both of which would have cost the alarm company). So no PulseNet anymore and we subsequently went with a wireless backup solution for the alarm in the event the main phone/Fios service is down.

Yeah...used to it...just seems with more and more technology talking to each other, this will continue to expand as an issue. Actually, Brinks was pretty cool about it. Shame on me for taking one person's word for it and not pressing it a little more the first time.
--
People who don't get good service on average tell 10 others while people who do get good service on average tell 1.

fishacura : Nope...alarm is fine...Brinks said it's a FIOS/Brinks compatibility issue that they cannot send software updates IN (incompatible something or another...something with signal strength not strong enough to get into FIOS system...) She knew all about it so it's not a hookup issue. Worked fine through Comcast and I think even through FIOS in the past (don't quote me on that) but something changed.
--
People who don't get good service on average tell 10 others while people who do get good service on average tell 1.

Brinks home security system issue with FIOS

fishacura : I have Brinks home security system and FIOS. Recently I noticed our alarm displays had not switched back to daylight savings time so I called to see why it never updated. They said sometimes software updates don't go through depending on who has your service. I told them Verizon and she said "oh...probably won't work but let me try again". So she tried and no luck. So while the alarm system works and will make the necessary "out call" to police or fire or whatever, they cannot link INTO the system and any software updates need to be done on-site by a brinks tech ($$$ cha ching...service call). Didn't even bother to call Verizon to see if there was anything I could do. Not a huge deal but at some point I am sure we're going to NEED a software update. Plus now I am an hour early everywhere I go :)
--
People who don't get good service on average tell 10 others while people who do get good service on average tell 1.
