Re: router vs switch You can get a software firewall for your PC. In the late 90's and early 2000's I used to use a PC as a DHCP server for all my devices. I had a firewall program in that PC. All data went through the PC before going through my INTERNET connection. But now it's much easier and cheaper to just use a stand alone router. And between that and the windows built in Firewall(plus virus protection) I have no problems. Plus a stand alone router uses much less power than having a dedicated PC for it running 24/7. Especially now that electricity rates are close to double what they were ten years ago. |
