Re: Practical router -- can't reset
On second look, it actually says "Practical Communications", not "Peripherals". Sorry.
Logo is very similar: (see »hk.image.auctions.yahoo.com/user···9_-5.jpg for mine, and
»web.archive.org/web/199703100447···mban.gif for the PP one.)
On the motherboard it has a sticker "production date 200212", which I assumed was year/month, but maybe it's not.
I'd love to find a manual for this, or any similar model. |

Actually, I got to the page by connecting the Practical router to a port on my old router. Then I could see the config page, at 192.168.1.254. Changed it back to the default.
Still wondering about the "reset" button, seems I'm working without a net.

Just a guess... if you managed to set the config page to 192.168.1.1, it may be there but still assigns addresses in the 192.168.123.xxx range. It won't route between the two.
Try manually setting your PC's address to 192.168.1.50 (or similar) then see if you can connect to the 192.168.1.1 config page. |

2 edits | I've got a "Practical Peripherals" model 400S router,
made 2002. No manual, and can't find anything online, seems they disappeared a few years ago.
(Anyone have any links to documentation of this or similar routers? Are they around under a new name?)
Anyway, I picked this up because it has a printer parallel port, rare these days, which I need.
I did the setup, which was on 192.168.123.254.
Because my existing router was on 192.168.1.1, I thought I'd change the Practical to the same, to simplify replacing it. That seems to have been a mistake, as after rebooting it I can't find the config page at either the new or old IP.
So I tried to press the reset button, but that didn't make any difference. I would expect some reaction, such as all the lights flashing, but there was nothing, though I tried over and over, held it down for 60 seconds.
However, if I connect my laptop, it does get an IP: 192.168.123.99, same as previous. But if I can't set up the DSL passwords etc, it's not terribly useful.
I ran a IP scan but couldn't find any active pages on 192.168.*.*, other than the laptop itself.
Any suggestions?? Is there some trick to resetting it? Have I bricked it? |
