| [Tweak Test] Trying to tweak my computer for 30/5mb Optimum cabl
I recently signed up for Optimum Online, for their 30mb down and 5mb up service. I'm trying to tweak it for the best results. Sometimes, it runs pretty well, sometimes it seems a little slow. My speed tests have varied a bit. Here's my latest Tweak Test: »/tweakr/block:···a=normal
I'm directly connected to my cable modem. I'm running WinXP. It's a Pentium 4 2.8ghz PC.
My last speed test on DSLReports was: 11474 down, and 2359 up. That's no where NEAR what I'm supposed to be getting. Here's the url for it:
Can someone help me get the best down and up speeds, and best performance?
Thanks, Matt |

OOL has been having problems with the high speed portion of the packages. Try this and let's see what it does.
Download DrTcp
Set Tcp Receive Window to 256960
Set Selective Acks, Path MTU Discovery, Black Hole Detection to Default.
Leave Max Duplicate Acks and TTL Blank
Save/Exit DrTcp
Reboot
Rerun the Tweak Test
Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: Speakeasy POPs
Also, test here »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test512
Note your transfer rate after about 30 seconds. Then cancel the download.
Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

| Sorry, had a busy few days. Now I'm having some freezing issues with my PC. Anyways, here's what I got:
1. Set Tcp Receive Window to 256960, and set the other settings to default as you said. Left the Acks and TTL blank.
2. Reran the Tweak Test. Here's the results from the Tweak Test: »/tweakr/block:···a=normal
3. Ran the Speed Tests from 2 different cities nearest me. here are those results:
a. Download Speed: 24291 kbps Upload Speed: 4886 kbps b. Download Speed: 21049 kbps Upload Speed: 2774 kbps
4. Ran the FTP test, twice. Transfer rates were 1.63MB/Sec the first time, and 1.50MB/Sec the second time. |

| That is not too bad. Lets bump the RWIN a little ans let's see what that does.
289080 for the RWIN. Leave thins as they are for the other fields. Run the Tweak Tester again and some speed tests. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

| I set the RWIN to 284060. I had an issue opening internet explorer at the higher setting. It would freeze when I tried to open it. Here's the latest tweak: »/tweakr/block:···a=normal
My latest speed tests from Speakeasy were between 16000kb/s and 19000 kb/s down, and 4000-5000 up.
I did a speedtest thru Netaccess here on DSLReports.com My results from that were: 12724/5112 Kbps
What do you think? I still don't seem to be getting near the 30mb download speed I'm supposed to. Would it helped if I bought more RAM for my computer. I've been wanting to do that anyways. I only have 512 mb of RAM that came with the computer. I was thinking of buying two 1mb chips and installing. Would that help? |

| • Back it down to 256960
• What MODEM do you have?
• More RAM will not help with speed tests, but it will improve the performance of the box.
• As I mentioned above, OOL is having issues with the high speed tiers. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |
