timid PUCs

Well, timid PUCs will cave like a deck of cards when Verizon threatens to bribe the governor to fire all the PUC members, or hire detectives to find out how many of them are gay wife beaters or child molesters, or sue the state for human rights abuses, or just sue the state as long as it can and try to bankrupt its AG office until the state settles.

Also most PUC commissioners live off buzzwords and powerpoints, with transitions and gradients, and will rubber stamp anything with a catchy video and powerpoint.

Edit:
this video convince any typical PUC commissioner, most meet once a month for a day and just watch presentation from the regulatED.

That won't happen here, Our Govenator is rich enough already and a Bribe wouldn't work.

Re: timid PUCs

Your Govenator is the one who gave ATT tax breaks to wire the state and we see well that went out there. The money that they could have used for something else. Now CA is one of the poorest states in the country.

Hell the City of Fresno has more money than the entire state that says something about your state gov't they don't give a SHIT and the issue will pass without a problem.

But as far as hiring people VZ won't threaten that. They'll just pay off the PUCs directly. the PUCs have never heard a deal from the Telco's they never liked. They're like the former FCC Chairman.

Given the economic climate and how irritated taxpayers still are with government bailouts of corporate America, I wouldn't be surprised if this deal has a difficult time getting approved. At a minimum, I suspect conditions may be imposed on Verizon that will cost them significantly more than they're going to be happy with. (New England regulators required them to agree to modify their deal with Fairpoint and contribute more capital and reduce the amounts Fairpoint would have been required to reimburse them.) The biggest hurdle may be with federal regulators, especially given the size of geographic area this deal would cover. I also wonder if Verizon may have a new best friend (the IRS) showing up on their door step, not wanting to leave.

Re: timid PUCs

Money talkes and the bull shit walks.

ATT never had a problem with the BS deal. And look what everyone got. Not a damn thing.

Also bail outs have little to do with this. We should have left AIG fail and tell China to bail them out since that's where they're based and from. AIG does nothing more than keep Excs out of trouble that fixed their books.

HAH, that's funny for 1993.

Kind of reminds me of the old visions of the future that had us driving jet cars and living on the moon by the year 2000.

Have you gotten sick of TV advertisments that promise products and services that nobody needs or wants yet? You will.

Most of the things shown in those ads are commonplace today. And I couldn't imagine going back to a time when we did not have them. 1993 seems so long ago but it realy isn't.
