Yeah, and it might not be worth it, especially not knowing if there is other internal damage. She could replace the screen, and still find there are other issues ......

Depends on the price and age of the laptop. I have done this with a dell and one the screen is off, on the back, the serial number can be googled for price comparison.
Looking for used laptop with same screen can also be an option especially if the laptop doesn't work but the screen does.
