The last I heard was that FIOS would go from four tiers to three at the end of the June. To a 10/2(not sure abput that speed) 25/25 and a 75/25 tier.
I certainly hope it happens. An increase to 75mbs from my current 50mbs download speeds would be very welcome. As long as my monthly $89.95 price doesn't increase.

Wish they would upgrade the 10/2 to 100/100 here in Tampa at no extra charge

I believe the unofficial word was for the 10/2 to be upgraded to 10/10. So there will be 2 symmetrical speed tiers (10/10 & 25/25), just like there are 2 TV packages (Essentials & Extreme HD). Most likely they will respectively be bundled with each other for double and triple play packages. 75/25 will probably still continue to be a standalone tier just like the 50/20 is.

Is this upgrade from 10/2 to 10/10 rumor across the board or just certain regions? 10/2 is alright but the upload is still a bit slow. Just curious. 10/10 would work fine for me

Ever since the last speed tier upgrade (5/2 -> 10/2, 15/2 -> 20/5, 15/15 -> 20/20, 30/15 -> 50/20) last summer, all of the tier changes were across the board and not just in specific areas. So we should see 10/10, 25/25, and 75/25 available to all Verizon FiOS areas.

I think the real question we have to ask is will they be automatic or do you have to call in and potentially renew your contract like the last batch of upgrades? I suspect that we'll have to call and ask for them but it would be nice to see it bumped up automatically to blow away current DOCSIS 3.0 upload speeds across the board.

I did not have to renew my (2-year) contract to get the 15/15 speed upgraded to 20/20 but I did have to explicitly call and ask for it.

Interesting. I was told that I had to renew mine before they would upgrade me and I was only 6 months into the 2-year contract at the time. Those sneaky CS reps...

Guys,
I do not know. I was told something is "in the works" and I am in the heart of OOL & FIOS territory. The person was tight lipped but from what I gathered, speed will be a factor Lets see. That is all I know. Even beer would not loosen he/she up

Renewing the contract would actually be good to lock in the rates.

Only if the new rate is substantially lower than your current contracted rate. I've got a sweet deal on TV right now that can't be beat by the current offerings, which is why I went with the 2-year contract to begin with.

Any rumor on pricing? The sweet spot seems to be the 20/5 package which is only a few bucks more than 10/2. Going from 20/5 to 20/20 is somewhat diminishing returns for the dollar.

Primarily I'm interested in business class so I can get a static IP and open ports, and the 2-year commit pricing on the biz-class is on par with the residential pricing.

I have this sick feeling the sweet spot 20/5 tier will be the one eliminated, so:

10/2 becomes 10/10
20/20 becomes 25/25
50/20 becomes 75/75

Now if they would price 25/25 the same as 20/5 today, that would be awesome....

I agree to an extent that they will upgrade the speeds and @ the same price now. However the have to somewhat match the OOL tier somewhere somehow in the Fios/Ool market. This is just a gut feeling. The good news is something will "pop" soon.

I was wondering, why Verizon hasn't offered 50/50 rather than 50/20 or even as a next level tier? If they only offered it for business, surely there are some business that would jump on board with such an offering.

Perhaps, but it would depend on pricing and location. Companies that actually need 50 Mbps of outbound bandwidth are probably running services that are better off on colocated (or rented) servers in a datacenter. The reasons are twofold.

First, if that much outbound bandwidth is consumed, your services are probably popular and you wouldn't want to risk your online business presence to what amounts to a consumer-grade product with no SLA and repair windows that can span a day or more.

Second, you're likely to need more than one IP and VZ price gouges something awful for static IP addresses. I can buy a 50 Mbps circuit from Cogent for $350/mo., get all the IP addresses I need as long as I can justify utilization, and have an SLA backing me up on outages.

Other carriers in major markets will compete with Cogent in the sub-$10 range as well, so unless you're doing office-to-office VPN or similar where you want to keep equipment in-house, colo usually makes more sense when your services are so popular that your bandwidth needs reach 50+ Mbps.
