Yes, the router reduces it. see

1 edit | reply to jaa Had Ultra installed today. I originally had a Webstar modem which also supplied my OV service. The tech completely replaced that modem and gave me a SBV5120 which now serves as my OV modem. My Ultra modem is the same Cisco DPC 3000 that everyone else has been getting. The above is a screen shot of my speedtest.net results this morning, prior to the tech installing Ultra.
I am behind a Linksys WRT610N, here are the Ultra speeds I'm getting now:
It took almost a half hour to remove the old Webstar modem from my account and provision the new new Cisco modem with Ultra speeds/service. My signal levels are pretty much spot on, right in the middle of the spec but the tech mentioned he would speak to his supervisor to schedule an appt where they would replace the line coming into house and possibly from the pole at some point. You would think for $300 they would do that the same day. Overall though, I'm very happy with the service so far. |

I consistently get 75/15. Im told im loosing some bandwidth as a result of the static service but I dont know if I believe this. Im curious to see what others think?
Marc You could always bypass your cisco and connect directly to the modem with a PC via DHCP to the modem to test the speeds just to be sure the connection itself is fine (i.e. that you can't squeeze another 10 mbps out of the connection), but as linked & stated above, the cisco router for static IP will not get you the full speed. I don't know if it caps at around 75 or not though. |

| reply to jaa Ultra has been installed! The techs were really, really nice and did a drop directly from the pole. I was the first one to do it in my area (residential wise) but I was the second to have it installed overall
I can confirm they are using 3 frequencies from the cisco modem they provided.
The results are from behind my firewall (Kerio WinRoute). However it wasn't that much difference without.
I will test later on tonight to get better results - this is around 12:30PM EST. |

1 edit | Why are his downstream power levels "horrible" or why would his connection drop? Those power levels are still within spec range. Though, if he added another 2 way splitter on the same line the modem is connected to, then he'd probably be out of spec and might see some connection issues then.
It wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on the power levels every now and then...especially with the heat/summer months coming up. If his power levels are consistent and don't fluctuate, he has nothing to worry about. |

| reply to kickass69 Yup, the supervisor who was on-site mentioned that the levels were borderline and showed me how to check them. They also left me a different pad that I can try if I start having problems. But the SNR is ok and I haven't had any problems yet so no need to go messing with anything.
The weak link is most likely the run from the house to the tap. But replacing it would be a mess - it's buried, a good 100' long, and crosses under my driveway at one point. |

1 edit | reply to mforrest73 Ah. I see the three bonded channels. 609Mhz, 615Mhz, 621Mhz..
Someone claimed that one of the shared channels is the standard OOL channel ( 603Mhz AFAIK ). This seems not to be accurate.
Interestingly, the modem is also using 22.5Mhz as it's upstream channel. So we BOOST users are essentially sharing both our downstream and upstream bandwidth with ULTRA users.
I wonder if this service takes off, how BOOST will be affected...
Downstream channel frequency = 609000000 Hz Upstream channel frequency = 22500000 Hz
I have no idea how it will affect things if a few ULTRA users get on your node... Perhaps BOOST will go D3, but it's awesome for Ultra users, but what about us BOOST users?...
Something to think about.
