Now my upload speed is less then 3.
Gotta be an answer somewhere. -- Trying is the first step towards failure. |

I went back to my onboard NIC which has loads of options. I played around with all of them and finally got the above results. -- Trying is the first step towards failure. |

@optonline.net | reply to jaa I'm using a 4 year old linksys router I wonder what i would get if i upgraded to a gigabit router |

@optonline.net | How is that possible, I'm pretty sure a 4 year old linksys router only has a 100mb port? |

| I doubt its photoshop but I have gotten speeds higher than the modem is capped at showing it is inaccurate sometimes. Like regular OOL is capped at 16.5 mb download and I had that test show 18 and 19 mb down and so do others which is a glitch cause if its capped at a certain speed you cant go over that. But is Ultra capped at 101 mb is the question. -- www.justin.tv/ut_gamer www.justin.tv/eebobb www.gamernook.com/eebobb www.myspace.com/eebobb |

| Maybe it is but we don't know what the cap is and I have seen some people try to run some programs to see what the cap is but it didn't work and I forgot the name of the programs used. Maybe Ultra is uncapped to the max that the 3 channels can do and I'm sure someone will find out what the cap is in time. -- www.justin.tv/ut_gamer www.justin.tv/eebobb www.gamernook.com/eebobb www.myspace.com/eebobb |

Usable speed for PDUs in a DOCSIS channel = ~38Mbps (raw speed is 42Mbps).
3x38Mbps = 114Mbps , deduct about 3+ Mbps for "other uses", brings you to 111Mbps raw speed, that seems to be the speed people are seeing as a ceiling here.
It's unclear if speedtest.net or other speedtests "compensate" for the specific overhead of their transfers: it's about 6% for FTP, which at these speeds makes a very significant 6-7Mbps difference in your "measured" speed - and guess what, Optimum Online is not responsible for your specific application's overhead
At these speeds, the buck clearly starts and stops with glitches in the specific machine and OS used, the browser/software application used, and most of all: your router - they make the difference between you going 75 or 110, and what you are measuring and observing is not the cable system's performance exclusively, but there's larger and larger system-specific influences and software glitches. Just think of BS like MSIE6 writing to disk at twice the data rate than the download speed - I kid you not , check it out with SysInternal's (now Microsoft) ProcExplorer |

Problems: Ultra just installed. Installation took 1 1/2 hours. Tech replaced splitters. First result thru DIR-655 modem was only 88/9.
Called Ultra support group. While on the phone on skype with Support group, the internet went out. They called back and I had to reboot the modem twice. Now back on, with decent speeds through router above. Tech on his way back. It shouldn't have lost connection!
EDIT- Installer's supervisor called back. He thinks that the modem was not fully provisioned for Ultra, and that is why it went out, and when it came back, speeds were much better. He may be correct. -- Business Optimum Online User-no games, no music-just business (and a little pleasure) |

| reply to jaa • Lex ask me if I wanted to expand our router FAQ now that we have Ultra.
• I am collecting data points to sort this all out.
• If you would please include your MODEM vendor and the model number with all your screen posts. Even if they are not up to Ultra standards.
Thanks. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

This speed so far has been extremely consistent. I wanted FIOS badly, but it is not available in my area. Now this came my way and I couldn't be more thrilled |
