Tech on his way back. It shouldn't have lost connection!<br><br>EDIT- Installer's supervisor called back. He thinks that the modem was not fully provisioned for Ultra, and that is why it went out, and when it came back, speeds were much better. Maybe Ultra is uncapped to the max that the 3 channels can do and I'm sure someone will find out what the cap is in time.<br> </div>There is no cap, or you wouldn't get the numbers posted.<br><br>Usable speed for PDUs in a DOCSIS channel = ~38Mbps (raw speed is 42Mbps).<br><br>3x38Mbps = 114Mbps , deduct about 3+ Mbps for "other uses", brings you to 111Mbps raw speed, that seems to be the speed people are seeing as a ceiling here.<br><br>It's unclear if speedtest.net or other speedtests "compensate" for the specific overhead of their transfers: it's about 6% for FTP, which at these speeds makes a very significant 6-7Mbps difference in your "measured" speed - and guess what, Optimum Online is not responsible for your specific application's overhead :-)<br><br>At these speeds, the buck clearly starts and stops with glitches in the specific machine and OS used, the browser/software application used, and most of all: your router - they make the difference between you going 75 or 110, and what you are measuring and observing is not the cable system's performance exclusively, but there's larger and larger system-specific influences and software glitches. Just think of BS like MSIE6 writing to disk at twice the data rate than the download speed - I kid you not , check it out with SysInternal's (now Microsoft) ProcExplorer :)]]></description>

Like regular OOL is capped at 16.5 mb download and I had that test show 18 and 19 mb down and so do others which is a glitch cause if its capped at a certain speed you cant go over that. Setting netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp gave me a little bump.<br><br>When the tech was here he stated something to the affect that my Tap is low speed and not high speed.  He didn't mention if that was bad or not.  I assume if it was he would have changed it.<br><br>btw is there a way to get into the modems setup screens etc like my sbv5222?<br><br><small>--<br>Trying is the first step towards failure.</small>]]></description>

Tech also installed voip, dvr cable box and ran new coax cable to the new cisco modem.<br><br>What took the time was the tech having wait for a office tech to move the Boost service to the new modem from the old modem which is now doing just VoIP.  New modem can't connect to Ultra without first being a "boost" modem, they then bond to two additional download frequencies.<br><br>Awesome service well worth any associated fees, though the fees are pretty steep. It was a simple modem swap. Two more are scheduled for this upcoming week in my area. I previously had two boost modems and since I only had a single drop coming into the house a cvc contractor ran RG-11 from the pole to my house for that original setup. Giganews seems to be a shy tad faster (sometimes by as much as 1MB/sec) but I'm still seeing 9-11MB/sec on both. At these speeds the network fluctuates. I see the three bonded channels. 609Mhz, 615Mhz, 621Mhz..<br><br>Someone claimed  that one of the shared channels is the standard OOL channel ( 603Mhz AFAIK ). This seems not to be accurate. <br><br>Interestingly, the modem is also using 22.5Mhz as it's upstream channel.  So we BOOST users are essentially sharing both our downstream and upstream bandwidth with ULTRA users.<br><br>I wonder if this service takes off, how BOOST will be affected...<br><br>Downstream channel frequency         = 609000000 Hz<br>Upstream channel frequency             =  22500000 Hz<br><br>I have no idea how it will affect things if a few ULTRA users get on your node...    Perhaps BOOST will go D3, but it's awesome for Ultra users, but what about us BOOST users?... <br><br>Something to think about.<br><br>Back to reviews.....]]></description>

They also left me a different pad that I can try if I start having problems.  But the SNR is ok and I haven't had any problems yet so no need to go messing with anything.<br><br>The weak link is most likely the run from the house to the tap.  But replacing it would be a mess - it's buried, a good 100' long, and crosses under my driveway at one point.]]></description>

Those power levels are still within spec range.  Though, if he added another 2 way splitter on the same line the modem is connected to, then he'd probably be out of spec and might see some connection issues then.<br><br>It wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on the power levels every now and then...especially with the heat/summer months coming up.  If his power levels are consistent and don't fluctuate, he has nothing to worry about.]]></description>

I was the first one to do it in my area (residential wise) but I was the second to have it installed overall :D<br><br>I can confirm they are using 3 frequencies from the cisco modem they provided. <br><br>The results are from behind my firewall (Kerio WinRoute). The tech completely replaced that modem and gave me a SBV5120 which now serves as my OV modem.  My Ultra modem is the same Cisco DPC 3000 that everyone else has been getting.  The above is a screen shot of my speedtest.net results this morning, prior to the tech installing Ultra.<br><br>I am behind a Linksys WRT610N, here are the Ultra speeds I'm getting now:<br><br><A HREF="http://www.speedtest.net"> <IMG SRC="http://www.speedtest.net/result/479526807.png"> </a><br><br>It took almost a half hour to remove the old Webstar modem from my account and provision the new new Cisco modem with Ultra speeds/service.  My signal levels are pretty much spot on, right in the middle of the spec but the tech mentioned he would speak to his supervisor to schedule an appt where they would replace the line coming into house and possibly from the pole at some point.  You would think for $300 they would do that the same day. However, it fluctuates widely --- a few minutes ago, I saw 53Mbs download and 4Mbs upload.  This is reminiscent of the problems I originally had with Boost where there was sufficient packet lost that phone service was intermittent.  I  had to cancel Boost which immediately fixed the problem.<br><br>Looks like I'm seeing the same kind of problem again with Ultra.<br><br>Sigh]]></description>

I couldn't stand the slow speeds during peak hours. But the funny thing is I think virtually everyone in my apartment building jumped ship to FIOS so I probably would have better speeds with optimum online right now. <br><br>I'm pretty happy with Fios though. Most of his time was taken up by talking on the phone to someone trying to get the Ultra speed to "lock in".  <br><br>He did replace a splitter in the basement so the line into my house was split into two, with one going to the modem and the other to another splitter to three TVs.  It wasn't like that when I had Boost, it was just one line in and then split four ways.]]></description>

Install took around 45 minutes, mostly waiting on dispatch to confirm settings.  Tech's were friendly (1 installer, 1 guy getting trained).  Supposedly I was the first install in their district.<br><br>Tech had the Cisco modem connected directly to his laptop, and it reached 98/14 right off the bat.<br><br>I've got it plugged into a router (Netgear WNR3500 - gig), so my speed is a little reduced now.<br><br>Overall, I'm very happy with the service and it meets my expectations.<br><br>Here's my results through the router.<br><br><A HREF="http://www.speedtest.net"> <IMG SRC="http://www.speedtest.net/result/476696824.png"> </a>]]></description>
