Re: [HD] So what HD channels do you MOST want to see on FiOS?

said by TrainBuff:

I believe that both Comedy Central & TCM do not have HD.
Comedy Central started a HD channel in January. There is a limited amount of HD on it however. The Daily Show and Colbert are not yet HD. Had to do a little digging at avsforum - see news release at »www.broadcastingcable.com/articl···g_HD.php. Comedy Central is a Viacom channel and the biggest gap in HD channels on Verizon are all the Viacom HD channels - many of which have limited amounts of true HD.

TCM does not have a HD channel nor there has been any solid reports on when the cable net might go HD.

Since we have had a number of threads and posts on what HD channels are missing from Verizon, here is a list of active HD channels which are not yet on Fios using the useful table at »www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre···=1058081 as the main source. I noted the corporate owner for many of the channels. Viacom and Rainbow/Cablevision are the 2 biggies.

National HD Channels currently active that are not yet carried by Verizon Fios
AMC HD (Rainbow Media, subsidiary of Cablevision)
BET HD (Viacom)
Cartoon Network HD (Time Warner)
CMT HD (Viacom)
Comedy Central HD (Viacom)
Crime & Investigation HD (listed as coming soon last November)
E! Entertainment HD (Comcast)
Fashion TV
Fuel HD (Fox)
Fuse HD (Rainbow Media, subsidiary of Cablevision)
G4 HD (Comcast)
IFC HD (Rainbow Media, subsidiary of Cablevision)
Jewelry TV HD (no major service provider has it, so may not yet exist)
Logo HD (Viacom)
MTV HD (Viacom)
NBA HD
Nickelodeon HD (Viacom)
RFD HD
Spike HD (Viacom)
TV One
VH1 HD (Viacom)
WE tv HD (Rainbow Media, subsidiary of Cablevision)

National HD Channels announced to starting soon:
BBC America HD (July)
MSNBC HD (June 29, 2009)

Reportedly in the works:
CNN Headline News HD
Additional Showtime HD channels - were supposed to start in 1st quarter of 2009, but no one has added them, so the launch was apparently postponed.

Viacom and Comcast HD's should be their priority.

PS: Does anyone know if the Comcast HD's have actually started? My comcast, which I canceled a few weeks ago, still didn't have their own HD.

I think that it really wouldn't matter to dump all comcast owned channels, are we gonna miss a few blazer games on their stupid sportsnet? G4 is a joke, and they have the worst adverting like they accept commercials from finallyfast(don't go there, it's scamware).

I say yes to viacom channels, but comcast hell no.

I do want my AMC HD, but I wonder how much they are holding out to other carriers to get the hd versions.

afiggatt.....thank you! I was not aware that Comedy Central had a HD channel. I had T-W up to the end of March and they never carried it.

Chelsea Lately @ 11PM went officially full HD on E! just last week ....
They are now showing it letterboxed on the SD channel.

As far as actual HD content, just give us the HD's now regardless, the content will follow...
Keep in mind just 8-12 months ago people were very much posting & complaining that Networks like Food HD, TLC, Travel & a host of others were "a waste", stretch-o-vision with little or no HD content....
I'm sure within 8-18 months, many of these newer HD's with little/no actual HD will also have a respectable amount of HD content as well ...

G4 is a great channel, and a lot of people watch E!.

I watched G4 when they had ST:TNG.

Anyway, a few channels I'd like in HD are Nickelodeon (and Nick At Nite), Nick2, Sleuth, GSN, American Life, Boomerang, Family Net, AMC, TCM, FMC, plus Stars Retro and all the Encore channels.

And, yes it would be nice if more older shows were remastered, and maybe even put in the VOD.

But, looking ahead, the more channels, the better.

It has been confirmed over on avsforum that TCM-HD has launched. It is an odd launch because no service providers are carrying it, but the HD feed is now available for the providers to add. Since no one is yet getting the HD channel, no clue on how many of the movies will be shown in true HD.

Add another national HD channel to the list of the HD channels Verizon does not have yet.

TCM HD? I'm guessing they are only doing it to not be left behind, maybe dropping the sd channel? TCM really doesn't have any content worth watching in hd.

TCM is a classic movie channel. Let make this clear: ALL MOVIES GOING BACK TO THE 1920s SHOT ON 35mm FILM CAN BE REMASTERED IN HD, provided a good quality master is available. Good quality 35mm film resolution is > 1080p HD. Of course, all the titles prior to the mid-1950s were shot in 1.37:1 Academy Ratio, so they will be 4:3 pillarboxed on the HD channel, but can be shown in HD.

HDNet Movies has shown a few B&W movies from the late 1940s & 50s and most of them have looked damn good. The older color movies can have aging problems with the master, so the color can be faded or look off even with the best remastering done. So old color titles can be hit or miss, but they will still look better remastered in HD than on the SD channel. The question for TCM will be how many of the older titles have been remastered in HD and are available for them to show on the HD channel.
