1 edit | [Fiber] Get more out of my FiOS
1. A Tweaks test from this page. Simply post the test's URL. Please make yourself pingable.
»/tweakr/block:···a=normal
2. The closest of 2 speed tests from the Speakeasy Test Sites page. Please note the URLs of both result pages for us.

At least from filesharing results, I have no problem achieving the upload I pay for (if I let µTorrent run full out, I max out the 5Mb upload fairly easily). But even say downloading a service pack from Microsoft, I'm still only doing around 1MB/sec.
3. A Line Quality test from here. Please copy and post the URL in the red box! This could take a while, so you might run this first. If it's too backed up, do it later, if requested.
»/linequality/nil/2522082
4. What type of Internet connection you have (DSL, Cable, Wireless, or Satellite), who your ISP (Internet service provider) is and the make, model and type of your modem.
Verizon FiOS I'm paying for 20/5. Um... whatever that modem/router combo that they ship out is. »Verizon Online FiOS FAQ
5. If DSL, do you use PPPoE connection software? (Do you have to connect to the Internet?) N/A
6. If PPPoE, which one -- WinPoet, Enternet, RASPPPoE, WinXP Native, etc? N/A
7. Which operating system you use -- Windows 98/98SE/ME/2K/XP, etc.
8. What your advertised speeds are (ask your ISP). 20Mb/5Mb
9. If your PC is on a network and/or using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) or VPN. By necessity, it is on the wireless LAN. My desktop in particular is connected via a Buffalo Ethernet Converter. Per the house rules, I cannot just get an ethernet cable and run it straight to the router (nor do I have a cable long enough to even try).
10. If you use a NAT router (Linksys, Netgear, etc.) for sharing your connection, and if so, the brand and model of your router. I suppose I'm using the Actiontec router that Verizon is supplying people now
11. How far you are (if using DSL) from the CO (Central Office). Keep in mind that further than 10,000 feet can significantly degrade speeds. Click here to find your distance, or simply ask your ISP. Would this be applicable, given that I am using FiOS? -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever

Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: Speakeasy POPs
Also, test here »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test512
Note your transfer rate after about 30 seconds. Then cancel the download.
Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra

The Optonline test also has me bumped up a fair bit as well... from the 1000~KB/sec I used to get, and getting much closer to 2MB/sec. Seems to hover between 1500~2150KB/sec.
A healthy improvement, for sure! -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever
