The OptOnline/test512 now jumps up to 2MB/sec download much faster, too. However, it does drop down now and again. But given the time I'm typing this, it may be that one of my roommates is on. :o

The Optonline test also has me bumped up a fair bit as well... from the 1000~KB/sec I used to get, and getting much closer to 2MB/sec. Seems to hover between 1500~2150KB/sec.

A healthy improvement, for sure! :o

Using the drop-down menu in The Doctor set your NIC’s (Ethernet adapter’s) MTU to 1500.

Save/Exit DrTcp

Reboot

Rerun the Tweak Test

Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: Speakeasy POPs

Also, test here »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test512

Note your transfer rate after about 30 seconds. Then cancel the download.

Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test.

At least from filesharing results, I have no problem achieving the upload I pay for (if I let µTorrent run full out, I max out the 5Mb upload fairly easily). But even say downloading a service pack from Microsoft, I'm still only doing around 1MB/sec.

Per the house rules, I cannot just get an ethernet cable and run it straight to the router (nor do I have a cable long enough to even try).

10. If you use a NAT router (Linksys, Netgear, etc.) for sharing your connection, and if so, the brand and model of your router. I suppose I'm using the Actiontec router that Verizon is supplying people now

11. How far you are (if using DSL) from the CO (Central Office). Keep in mind that further than 10,000 feet can significantly degrade speeds. Click here to find your distance, or simply ask your ISP. Would this be applicable, given that I am using FiOS?
