| Windows 7 offline folder
I can't seem to figure out how to make a folder available offline in Windows 7.
Searches have reveled that you should just be able to right click on the folder, and click make available offline, just like XP. No such option exists. I looked through the sync center, and as far as I can tell, it should be good to go. Is there somewhere else I have to turn it on first? -- With every new wave of optimism, or pessimism, we are ready to abandon history, and time tested principles, but we cling tenaciously and unquestioningly to our prejudices. It is enabled by default unless your server administrator has turned it off for a specific share (server-side). Are you looking for "Always available offline" on the right click context menu? |

| Yes i have a direct mapping. It is a subfolder of my personal home drive on the server.
like "h:\data\valuble documents" i would like to have those documents available even when i'm not at the office.
it still works on my Vista PC. |

(EDIT)
I have a Windows 7 Media Center PC and a Windows 2003 server here at home. I just created a share on the 2003 server and I am able to make it available offline without changing anything. I am also able to on my HTPC.
Are all your machines in the same workgroup? Mine are ... perhaps that's why? |

| Yes the server is 2003 and in our domain, as is the Win 7 PC.
it works for none of our servers, direct mapping or UNC also does not make a difference. |

| reply to Matt I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The Win 7 Comp is also in the Domain as the AD, and all other computers with no problem getting any other machine to make the same folders available off-line. -- With every new wave of optimism, or pessimism, we are ready to abandon history, and time tested principles, but we cling tenaciously and unquestioningly to our prejudices. Hrm, unfortunately, I haven't used Win7 in an AD environment yet and Google doesn't seem to be much help.
The RSoP (Resultant Set of Policy) tool in Windows 7 is now graphical (open a command prompt and type "rsop"). I would check there and see if for some reason your Windows 7 machine is applying (or not applying as the case may be) a policy object properly. |
