jmn1207Premium join:2000-07-19 Ashburn, VA | Best Buy Instant Rebates Things may have changed, but last I heard was that Best Buy gives the rebate immediately. Should be in stores on June 7th.
I have a $150 additional discount with Sprint as one of my phones is passed the 2-year commitment point. If Best Buy works like I hope, I could be walking out with a new Pre for only $50.
I'm going to wait for some reviews before I drop my beloved BlackBerry. If all of the hype is legitimate, I'm swooping in and grabbing one of these phones, even if I have to wait 6 months for the mail-in rebate.

Dropping an iPhone for a Pre is one thing, but leaving a Blackberry? Heh, you'll be like all those people that left their Blackberries to go to an iPhone and went right back! I'd never leave my Blackberry.

I then got an iPhone 3G a few months after it launched and hated it. The 3G was terrible where I live (yes, not Apple's fault I know), it dropped calls like crazy, and didn't really think the extra $10/month was worth it.
I got the Bold when it launched and have loved it ever since. It deals with the 3G at my house much better than the iPhone did so I'm very happy about that. If the new (3rd gen iPhone) is really good, I think I'll be switching back.

My Blackberry does better with the 3G network than my iPhone and people tell me I am just slamming Apple, which is not true. Oh well. I love my Bold. Until the next line of Blackberry devices come out, it's the only Blackberry out there with the fastest processor. I am waiting for Dev OS 5.0 to come out and for the rollout of BES 5.

I just want Rev A speeds and Wi-Fi and I would stop looking for the perfect phone, provided that phone can be found on Verizon or Sprint's wireless network. I almost jumped ship a couple of times, but the battery life and a touchscreen-only keyboard were the show stoppers with the Verizon Samsung Omnia.
Basically, the Palm Pre has the specifications of my dream phone using existing technology, with the exception of the 3MP camera vice a 5MP+ camera.

A very...conservative, right wing station. I might give Sprint another try and get a Pre. Not getting another iPhone. Apple got me twice, with the first one, and the 3g. Steve Jobs promised better battery life. That was a lie. Had a better chance of buying that bridge in Brooklyn. I may get a Pre and keep my Bold on AT&T.

Doubt you'll be walking out with one for less than $199 even with your upgrade discount.

Doubt you'll be walking out with one for less than $199 even with your upgrade discount. Not sure why that would be the case. I did a similar thing when I got my BB Curve, so I would expect it to work the same for the Palm Pre. The prices they are quoting do not include the discounts that existing long-term customers will also get. It would not be the first time that existing customer discounts have been excluded, but I have not seen Sprint do this in quite some time. I'm sure that my $150 discount will be accepted if I pick up a new Pre.
Edit: Looks like you are correct. I just talked to Sprint and I either get my upgrade discount or I can get a another phone added to my contract, both will cost the same. Sorry. Still looking forward to this release.

When I tried to use my $150 discount for a new Palm pro (upgrading from my 700wx) I was told that the $150 is factored into the rebates that they were already giving. Or to put it another way I did not get the long-term customer discount sprint stated I was entitled to because they had discounted the phone more. This occurred in February, so I would say they are still doing it. -- Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime

Basically I am going to get the same discounts that a brand new Sprint customer would get with a 2 year commitment, since I am entitled to a full upgrade discount with one of my existing phones.
I used their web store and looked at prices with my upgrade discount applied, and then acting as a new customer, and prices were identical for every smart phone.

Personally I think it is rather crappy of sprint to give a "loyalty" discount then to take it away if you try to use it on one of the better phones. -- Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime

Need to set you straight here. That $299 price is for new customer pricing. Even if you get the new customer pricing on an upgrade you will still have to pay $199 if Best Buy gives you the rebate instant. Some phones on upgrades($150 Credit) are more then signing up as new. Thats where people get confused. That $150 credit is off the retail price of the phones and then it some how works out to be around $299 and either an instant or mail-in rebate is included which makes the phone $199

"Requires new line or eligible upgrade with a 2-yr contract"
Basically, I get the exact same price with my upgrade as a person would get if they were a new customer, while obviously getting a new line.
I had two windows up, one while I was logged into my Sprint account and another as an anonymous browser. I checked the prices and made a side by side comparison and the prices matched exactly for every phone.
I suppose that means the the full price of the Palm Pre will be $449, as I get $150 off plus an additional $100 mail-in/instant rebate, which makes my cost come out to be $199, same as a new customer or an existing customer adding a new phone line.
Edit: I'm guessing that you didn't read my follow-up posts where I had already conceded this fact?
|
| | That's bullcrap. So, even with my loyalty discount, that doesn't even matter, either way I'm paying $199. So, whats the point of the loyalty upgrades. | |
