Like I suggested earlier, try downloading a large (75+MB) file and see what your speed is. That's a more accurate, and more useful, indication of your true download speed.
Use a decent site, too. Microsoft is a common favourite, or any site that has large drivers and is used to heavy downloads. |

| reply to haw Haw, The fact that your getting 15Mbps to Chicago in the speedtest seems to suggest your connection on most part is fine.
I ran same test from here in Edmonton to the Iron Mountain server you just tested on, and for what ever Reasons that server is dam SLOW(2.59Mbps).
Your may not get maximum speed to many test servers, there are so many factors involved, ones even outside of Shaw's control. |

This test was done in safemode direct from pc to modem, as it was suggested to me Safemode is more accurate for testing. Though there isnt a comparable difference in speed. There is nothing wrong with my equipment and the line is new from the modem to the pole. So cable internet must be really slow on this side of this city. |

Marie This site gives a comprehensive report on your connection. » www.measurementlab.net/I've been over this with "haw" in his previous posting Well they say all is fixed here , I have never seen more than 4 meg from Iron Mountain or 15 meg from chicago even with Speedboost since. I have never seen speedboost kickin.
The east end sounds great that would be better than WARP here, 66meg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If they upgraded me to Warp I still wouldnt get that!! |

Maybe you should be using that test site then instead of the one you keep posting over and over again. Shhhh. Don't tell him that. I've got a side bet with a few members that he'll post his speeds at least 100 times by the end of the month.
Seriously though, some sites are just not reliable for speed testing. How close they are doesn't necessarily mean anything. I get amazing speeds on the U.S. west coast, but not so good in central Canada which is closer.
Bottom line - are you noticing that you are having trouble downloading, or viewing sites? It doesn't matter what some speedtest tells you - it's just one site, and a snapshot in time. Download a file or two and see how that goes. |

I can appreciate you're frustrated, but does that really sound logical? He got 13000 a few times then left for another call saying he knew very little about computers.A throttle doesnt sound logical but neither does a consistent and fast upload with a slower download. What possibly could cause that?
said by ErikRP :How did he connect to the internet? I'm guessing he connected directly to the modem. How do you connect - through a router? We both connect threw the modem , I alway make sure my first computer is connected via a network cable to the modem for testing
said by ErikRP :I'd suggest checking all of your settings, including (especially) your NICs and any other network settings, especially if you are going through a router? I've checked all settings and I get these results through the modem.
said by ErikRP :So you've had this problem for a while now. Have you asked Shaw to drop you down to regular high-speed internet so you're at least not paying for speeds you're not seeing? Once you are getting the normal speeds for a regular high-speed connection you can ask them to put you back to Extreme The day the service was first installed the installer said he had seen the same problem in 3 or 4 other homes in my neighbourhood. I had high but then got a temporary upgrade to extreme hoping it would speed things up, but only the upload speed was noticably higher.
So now I need a wifi spot in sault ste marie I can check my laptop on to see if there is some strange problem.

My neighbourhood must be getting throttled i had 4 meg with chicago earlier today and now this.
That might explain the higher upload if only the download gets capped or throttled. |

| reply to haw As others stated sounds like it is definitely going to be related to your systems.
If your sure its not software caused (virus, or software firewall) or so on. Then you could possibly look at hardware like network card and so on. (possible negotiating problem?)
Non the less there is something that both your computers have in common that's causing your issue. |
