| reply to Bummered In the Province of Ontario, ham radio plates are no different than regular number plates.
You can have (or had I don't know if it's still available) the Radio Amateurs of Canada logo added for extra $$. -- "It's all coming down!!" - Mike Holmes |

AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR: One plate may be issued with your Federal Communication Commission (FCC) assigned call letters. If you desire a second Amateur Radio Operator registration plate, your call letters plus a hyphen and the number 2 will be issued. A copy of your Amateur Radio Station license must be attached to the application.

| reply to Bummered The Amateur Radio plates do come in handy when you are parked in a shopping center parking lot in the middle of the night working a severe weather net like I was the other night.
When a police car drives over by your car to check you out, they see the ham plates and then just drive off. They apparently know that hams sometimes work severe weather nets. |

| reply to Bummered I agree with what burner50 just said..."You could also just get a new systematically assigned callsign"
I think you can do this online at »wireless.fcc.gov/uls/index.htm?job=home
That would solve the problem for sure. |

Yes, I live in a state where you can get whatever you want on your plate and call signs are not protected.
I finally tracked down the owner of the plate with my call sign. I called him up and asked him about it and he said it was the call sign of his grandfather who had died a few years back. He said his grandfather taught him everything he knows about hamming and they used to "play radio" together. Nevertheless, I asked him if I could have it and he refused. I offered him $100 for it and he said he wouldn't give it up for $1000. Guess I will just have to wait and see if he forgets to renew it or moves out of state and then I can snatch it up. You could also just get a new systematically assigned callsign -- I'm tired of killing stupid people just trying to do my job and go home! |

| reply to DrStrange funny a friend who lives in NY got 35% tints on his car and it's been 6 months now..
it's a law they really can't enforce since each state has it's own tint laws..
If all states said XX% amount as a limit then they might have something to go on. |

| reply to tobicat said by tobicat :Arizona does not have amateur plates only personalized plates. You can have your call sign on it if some one else does not already have it. They could care dink about your license. Actually Arizona does have an amateur plate now. $25 per year for the privilege. You have to send a copy of your license. |

| reply to UHF said by UHF :said by Subaru :I plan on getting 35% tints all around when my plate comes Don't drive through Iowa, front windows must transmit a minimum of 70%. Yes, they do check. Where I live it's the cops favorite pastime to pull people over and check their window tint. I guess they have nothing better to do. Not to get off topic but how can they police something which 35% is legal in my state? if I'm just visiting or passing Iowa they can't tell me to remove my tints if I don't live in that state. -- It's NOT Ni-kon It's NE-KON!
