said by Subaru :I hope I wont run into a issue of them needing to see my registration because after 5 weeks they have yet to send it to my mailbox yet!! Do you do know that you can print a duplicate of your license off the ULS system?

You need to have a FRN (which you get by registering) but after that it is pretty easy. |

| reply to drjim said by drjim :My callsign and "callbook" address are my private mail box. I also don't keep a radio in the car to tempt thieves any more than they normally are. My rig is attached to a thick plastic cutting board with a nice handle, and I can have it in and out of the car in a few minutes. Do you use a private name, also? Unless you were born "John Smith" and reside near a large city (Like L.A.?), it really isn't that hard these days to be located by some maniac road-rager who thinks you cut them off.
And recently, my wife had a $200 window broken on her car to steal an $80 CD player.
No thanks to putting anything identifying on my car. -- New to Forum Life? Click here and learn. |

| reply to Bummered Ohio requires that you bring in your original and a copy of your FCC license in order to get the ham plates. The plates are not in the vanity plate category. They are specialized plates that also say "amateur radio" on the bottom of them.
Anything looking like amateur radio call letters are not permitted to be used on regular vanity plates, although I'm guessing some may slip through. |

-- People can easily find the home address of where you live. In my 8 years of being a US licensee with my home address published and available, I have never had anyone show up at my door. All of the mapping software including mapquest and Google has the wrong house besides.
I have had one jerk follow me while I was on the road too so you don't need a callsign for that.
I have been thinking of putting my PMB as my FCC address though, but this means I will actually have to check it more often to pick up QSLs. It's a UPS store box I use for packages mostly. |

Where I live it's the cops favorite pastime to pull people over and check their window tint. I guess they have nothing better to do. |

| reply to tobicat said by tobicat :Arizona does not have amateur plates only personalized plates. You can have your call sign on it if some one else does not already have it. They could care dink about your license. Actually Arizona does have an amateur plate now. $25 per year for the privilege. You have to send a copy of your license. |

| funny a friend who lives in NY got 35% tints on his car and it's been 6 months now..
it's a law they really can't enforce since each state has it's own tint laws..
If all states said XX% amount as a limit then they might have something to go on. |

| reply to tobicat Yes, I live in a state where you can get whatever you want on your plate and call signs are not protected.
I finally tracked down the owner of the plate with my call sign. I called him up and asked him about it and he said it was the call sign of his grandfather who had died a few years back. He said his grandfather taught him everything he knows about hamming and they used to "play radio" together. Nevertheless, I asked him if I could have it and he refused. I offered him $100 for it and he said he wouldn't give it up for $1000. Guess I will just have to wait and see if he forgets to renew it or moves out of state and then I can snatch it up. |
