Just wanted to let everyone know and this has happened on more then one occasion. PP pushed an update to my HT-502 sometime last night and it caused an outage of my phone service and internet. Did anyone have any similar problems?

Thanks for the input Kinzoo, I'll call PhonePower and see of anything can be done. This has only happened once or twice in the past so it is nothing I'm going to complain over.

2 edits | Re: Update caused HT-502 to go down said by ptrowski :So this persisted for almost a week? No, all is cool. Like I mentioned earlier this is my 3rd time the old Grandstream was not properly rebooting after redownloading its profile. To fix it all I did was manually reboot it. At first I thought it was the Grandstream puttering out like a router does over time?
However as PhonePower mentioned in this thread it seems to be a problem with the Grandstream. So they sent me a new one Monday, received it Thursday, and have been using it since then. So far so good... I'll have to wait about a month or two to see if the new Grandstream fixes the issue because it only trys to reboot every week after pulling a profile.
In my last post I was just referring to the fact that my service has been solid with the new Grandstream just as it has been for the past 6 months. Part of me wishes something exciting would happen? The CSRs must be running out of movies to watch, hehe?
UPDATE---
Found out that I'm still having the same issue with the new HT-502. For whatever reason Verizon seems to think updating my dynamic IP address every few hours is the new fad? The frequent changing of IP addresses w/PPOE is responsible invalidating my registration and causing my device to lockup sporadically. So I'm on the phone with them now to see if there is something that can be done? What I would not give to have Comcrap in me area?

My point is that by your own words there has been issues that seem to be relayed back to Verizon. » Re: Pulled the trigger todayMaybe you should consider another ISP. Also, your obsession with VT is a bit tired. Just let it go...... Why do you care?.... I don't care what you say about whatever? Freedom of speech, you seem to hold your own with it in these forums? Also 3 providers is not that many.
I left Vonage due to price increases and flakey service. Packet 8 because of the latency which they admitted could be a problem from living so far from Cali. VoicePulse could have been ISP issues?
Just goes to show how good PhonePower is if I can have solid service with a "crap ISP"? They must be doing something right? As far as people not being able to find the forum, that could be. However if they were really that bad I'm sure they would be here along with ViaTalk?

And now it is Verizon changing their IP address which is bringing down your VoIP service.
I am just saying that your previous providers that you are so quick to blame could have all been solid providers and the one common theme? Verizon. I would start working with them to see what they can do to restore your great PP service. -- "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

I would start working with them to see what they can do to restore your great PP service. Thanks, there is nothing Verizon can do but sell me a 70 dollar business class service with a static IP. As I mentioned it is the constantly changing of the IP addresses that invalidates the registration every week when the HT-502 pulls a profile to see if anything has changed.
I would have never stayed with Vonage because of the poor tech support and increase of prices. However I would have stayed with Voicepulse if the QOS was better and\or ViaTalk if they get their act together, JMHO? Even Joe who has VoicePulse has had occasional glitches with QOS. That is nature of the beast with VoIp. Anyone that says their service has been 100% perfect is a liar and I will be the first to call BS.
Your right I would love to have my device reboot properly after pulling a profile. However, since Verizon told me point blank they will only provide a static IP if I pay 70.00 a month, I'm SOL! PhonePower has been providing me outstanding service, better then any VoIp company in the past. Since I'm unwilling to pay 70.00 a month for DSL, it is not to much effort to hand Sandy a remote and say if the phone goes down push this button wait 30 second and push it again.
FYI I spent over an hour on the phone with Verizon, if you can get them to give me a static IP without paying for a business account I will drive to CT and pay for all the junk food you can eat in the hospital Thanks for trying to help though, I appreciate it!
UPDATE---
Now that you mention it I'm going to take my Westel 6100F out of bridge mode tonight and let it establish the PPOE connection to see if that helps?
UPDATE---
Just remembered the Westel resets itself into Walled Gardened mode if the power goes down. Anyway, I'll wait to do anything for now, if the HT-502 locks up again I'll put it after the router. Hate to do that because then I loose the nice QOS the HT-502 provides.

I used their service while I was in Canada
work flawlessly (have to love click2Call).
They have been hands down the best VOIP I have had. My HT502 has been trouble free.
When I travel the world, all I want is trouble free calling (for wife & all) and PhonePower has given me that.

Being one who had and has both services....PhonePower runs circles around ViaTalk...ViaTalk simply has more problems then what its worth...They are rude, inconsiderate, and have no problem charging you when you owe a dime but when they owe you...lol...thats a different story...better just go and put it in your wait bin!! PhonePower is cheaper and much more reliable than ViaTalk hands down....Don't make a mistake and sign with ViaTalk...Go with reliability...Go with Phone Power!!!

| Re: Update caused HT-502 to go down Cool thanks, looks like it is just me for now? No worries... Maybe after my 1 year anniversary in November I'll finally be over my hyper vigilance and finally rest easy knowing I'm not with my previous VoIp provider and service will not randomly break for no apparent reason. | |

Maybe after my 1 year anniversary in November I'll finally be over my hyper vigilance and finally rest easy knowing I'm not with my previous VoIp provider and service will not randomly break for no apparent reason. Sounds like an upgrape caught you. Nope Read what PhonePower said above again. They called me and explained that by default the HT-502 checks in and pulls a profile to see if anything has changed, which in my case did not at 5am yesterday.
Mine pulled the profile and for whatever reason did not reboot properly? Matt has been hard at work trying to duplicate the issue at PhonePower yesterday. They have the attitude if it could happen to others better to be proactive then reactive. As it stands now though it looks like it is isolated to my HT-502. I will update with more later.
UPDATE via email 5pm EST:
Javier will be calling you to explain the results of my findings. I have to run out to take care fo a few things around the office, but long story short, your device = broke. It either is failing to download the profile, or it will download it, and not reboot itself, as it should.
Considering it still worked reliably for the most part for a could 6 months it goes to show how resilient the HT-502 is.
Thanks Guys! | |
