do you actually need to buy anything to mod your DS?
You don't need to mod the actual DS. You only need the R4DS to run the games on.
Emulator and ROMS go on a microSD card. MicroSD card goes into R4DS. R4DS goes into the Nintendo DS game slot. Boot the DS. Done. -- Insert wisdom here...
