I have always thought WKND was one of the BEST r&b stations in the area!!
When i found out yesterday THEY ARE NOW STREAMING,i was happy!!
Until i logged on the stream!!

Radio reached it's peak in 1959. It was all downhill after that. |

I agree "Beautifull music" (Or 'Simply Beautifull') is one of the NICEST formats out there!
I am glad and thankfull Music Choice still has thier "BEAUTIFULL" stream..... NO ONE ELSE HAS ONE!! (Not like a pre-81 format anyway) |

| Indeed. I'm glad that I held on to my approx 100 reels of pre-recorded music from 1958-61. I've managed to obtain some digitally-remastered versions of some of these and it's amazing how wonderful they sound, even by today's standards.
Anyone remember WWRL (later changed call letters to WRFM) out of NYC? Around 1964, I got a Grundig Transistor 16 AM/FM/SW radio at Grand Way on Main St in Danbury. Tuning around the dial, I found what eventually became my alltime favorite FM station. When I moved north, it became a challenge to receive WRFM; the Grundig was no longer able to pull it in, but I had a Karg Labs FM tuner that was real hot and I erected a 25' mast with Radio Shacks 175-mile 10-element log periodic antenna and was once again able to listen. (There was WPSB in Bridgeport, but they were more into 'soul' music and the format was really mixed-up prior to the WEZN takeover).
WRFM not only had the music, but they announced all the music titles, so you knew what you were hearing, and they had a pretty nifty journalism department, headed up by Jim Branch.
Those were wonderful years. |

Yes my grandparents LOVED 100.5 .. They were very good also for many years..... When they changed they had nothing to listen to and my grandfather had passed away years later and my grandmother was alone for the rest of her life.....
I remember when she fell down and she just got worse from that point.. I made her an 8hr VHS tape of Music Choices "Easy Listening" and she listenend to it when stuck in bed....
She passed away in bed listening to it..

| I think that was WRCH or WHUD. My fav, WRFM, was at 105 on the dial.
Another interesting station came on the air around 1981 in the Hudson Valley was WRVH at 105.5 on the dial. They played beautiful music during the day/weekdays, but on Sunday nights, they had an audiophile's program called "Adventures in Sound" with Anthony Fast as host. They played master tapes and direct to disc LPs and of course, Ed Valentine, the station founder and owner, had personally rebuilt much of the studio electronics and the station sounded noticeably sweeter than anything else on the air at the time. I did some remote concert recordings with him back then and saw their studio (very unusual acoustic design) and automation system and was very impressed with it. They put a lot of money into that station. It was a shame to see it sold in 1986 and the format changed to rock. Cumulus now owns them. |

Yeah i liked 100.5 (And also 99.9 which also was beautifull (And 99.9 from cape cod (Back then went by "Cape cods 100 fm WQRC))

| When I discovered the Bridgeport station at 100 on the dial, it was WPSB and the format was mixed and not too professional. I remembered they played a lot of Peggy Lee. Then in the early 1970s, they changed call sign to WEZN and the format got more refined.
In 1974, I explored the low end of the FM band and found WWYZ, with some weird announcers who spoke like this: "..at Wizzzzze... there's Muuuuusic..." --it got my attention so I listened more out of curiousity. The following year, they hired Tony Marvin as their main announcer and they took on a more professional air product. But the automation system was predictable. I always knew by the Ampex 25 hz tones when they were going to play "If You're Going to San Francisco". |

What was the name of that DJ back in the 70's from WPLR who had the gravely voice? WPLR used to be pretty cool.
At least you guys can get a signal, where I live the only radio signal that reaches for some reason is USA weather radio, but if I had to choose, that's the one I'd choose.
