Oldgoat join:2008-12-11 Federal Way, WA | Actually My FW is 1.01.19 which is what came on the router when I bought it. I am wondering if these new FW versions help speed up the data transfer through the USB port on the router to an external HD. Right now it is really slow. The original FW version I am using seems to run just fine. I can't see any reason to upgrade without some kind of major benefit. What's your opinion. |

USB on most routers will be slow as USB over the network is never really quick. But you would think since this has Gig ports that USB can handle data at 480mbps and the router real-time 600-699mbps even though 1000mbps.
What do you want to do though? Store data only or use like a NAS drive? Store/Read/Write on the fly.
As for firmware I do agree with you unless something major was fix and speed is the same I would continue to use the current firmware. But mine has some features that weren't available for most reviews.
I take it Belkin has two models one for on ADSL+Modem Router no Gig ports on the first models then later got added on. Then there is the one I have that works with Cable/DSL and gig ports.
I was using Dlink DIR-655 for a year now but nothing with issues with the wireless. I should have stuck it out with the firmware it came with. They have so many firmware updates a lot of which limits functions and they have a terrible problem with DNS Replay.
Right now I using it with the Belkin N+ as AP and the Belkin N+ is the main router and wireless N. |

Oldgoat join:2008-12-11 Federal Way, WA | Actually I'm probably going to buy an NAS box. The USB port on the router will be to slow for what I want to do. I will be storing folders full of files which I want to be able to access from either my desktop or laptop. Also I will be able to access my file folders via internet if I choose to do that. My last router was a really old D-Link. It was working but I decided to upgrade to gigabit. I originaly bought a newer D-Link gigabit router but I took it back. I did not like the problems I had to deal with. This Belkin works as smooth as silk.
Do you know if there is a way to adjust the MTU setting on the router. There is nothing on the menu screen about it. |

There is nothing on the menu screen about it. Need to make sure your OS is set correctly for MTU.. I use the Sytweak tool to set the OS to MTU, there seem to be a bug in some of these free TCP Optimzers are not setting the MTU to the right setting. Once set right it kicks-in quick. Belkin N+ really open sites.. The router will do it automatically as in the case of Belkin N+. They made it simple and smart. Although I would like to control the WAN speed, but frankly again that's going to be smart option. It's set correctly and able to get very high uploads and downloads are much faster then current DIR-655. Very impressive. I wanted to get another Belkin N+ to extend the range. I don't see anyone here using two of them in the house.
Right now I got the DIR-655 to extend it the range... |
