We've been with Cogeco (TV & Internet) since both services were available in Windsor! This latest shenanigans (caps + price increase) is unreal. Actively seeking other TV/Internet providers ASAP. STUFF IT, Cogeco.

The majority of users don't even know what bandwidth is, let alone how to check their usage...(not for long though, once extra charges start going through)

As has been said many times, todays internet requires lots more bandwidthe than it used to.... I suspect that cogeco does actually realise this fact, and is just wanting to cash in on it...

@cgocable.net

As I explained in another thread I wire peoples homes for phone, dsl and voip.

Lately when I get a Cogeco customer I have been doing a quick survey if they know about the caps and understand what it means.

Not one, other than a teenage son, had a clue. I wouldn't want to be working the phones at Cogeco there when the bills start going out and people start calling in.

SuperCM See Profile, I guess I should clarify (as I have a bad habit of not being 100% clear with what I say sometimes)... I have my internet bundled with TV. Does it say anything about the discounted, bundled internet rates increasing, or is it just the standalone internet service increasing?
I believe the bundled price is increasing by $1.

I'm skeptical of it's accuracy as well. For example it's reporting one of my days as 0 both ways which obviously is not correct. Other days it reports the usage extremely high. The bandwidth page is also barely ever working most of the time it says it's unavailable.

Personally if I got nailed with any overages I would be disputing them until their measurement system is in place and is working 100%. Its like the fox guarding the hen house.

I hope Cogeco is aware that by jacking up Pro to be more than $80/month, ML-PPPoE from Teksavvy is now cheaper and that because of that and these bogus low caps I have absolutely no reason at all to remain a Cogeco customer.

Cogeco can bite me. As soon as I manage to scrounge up a second DSL modem I'm gone.

I think Cogeco is looking for a mass exodus of Pro users. I mean come on, what kind of idiot would pay $80 + $50 + Tax overusage / month? I'm waiting for the Cogeco trolls to come out of the woodwork so they can claim how competitive and affordable that plan is.

Wow... good jorb, marketing!

Drop the HD PVR from 19.99 to 15.99, then slowly bump it up.

That's it. Basic is over $30 including taxes, working out to over $390 for the year. I can go OTA with the box for cheaper than that in a year!

I'm on Pro, and I found the pricing/overages to be absurd even before this increase.

I have to assume Cogeco really doesn't want to offer this package, but for PR reasons doesn't want to remove it.

These changes also make me even more convinced that the once you hit your max overage, you will be disconnected.

Otherwise, the Standard account becomes even cheaper;

$45.95 =$30 overage = $75.95

$1 cheaper than the BASE Pro price.

If you truly can get to 100gigs or beyond on Standard, then this scheme makes no sense.

I suspect more likely that this increase is done in this way to maximally punish those wanting between 60-100 gigs.

In other words, those who didn't want to pay for Pro, but want a bit more than standard.

I expect hard Standard caps of 75 gigs (60 + $30 of overage at $1.50/gig so 15 gigs) come June 1.

I ordered teksavvy already and should finally have it next week after today bell said no dsl for you no ports but then a few hours later said sure. So Cogeco will be an after thought and no time and my pro package will be gone as it's just a rip off at this point.

It's disappointing it was a good run with Cogeco but with the ever increasing demand for bandwidth on web sites the cap along with the price makes no sense. teksavvy $29.95/month for 200GB although 5mbit but still what a price difference. This is also over premium transit in comparison to Cogeco who has cogent and has frequent issues with their transit providers and congestion. Could go with teksavvy over cogent and probably still get better overall latency.

Snickerdo - since you appear to know some dsl tek talk can you tell me how or where I go to check what type of speed is available to me on DSL (website, phone number)? TIA.

Go post your full address and telephone number in the Teksavvy Direct forum and ask them to estimate line speed for you.

That one is tough. I haven't used a landline in years. I will ask over there if anything can be estimated from, perhaps, my address and mabye the tel number of someone else in this building. Thanks much. (P.S. Someone also mentioned (in PM) the Biz starter with Cogeco as a less pricey option so if I can stomach staying with them and/or if Teksav is not a viable option suppose I have to consider that too.) Thanks again.

sounds like they have taken the bell business management course, less service, increased price, and to hell with you if you don't like it.

next they'll be charging for the anal lube .........
