Re: [Connectivity] InsightBB issues

And strange things just keep on happening. My IP address changed twice this past weekend. I wonder what the heck is going on? As far as I know I never lost my service but when I came to this site to view my line monitor, there were gaps in service because of the IP change(as you can see from the above chart).

I am connected by Ethernet to the router then Ethernet to the PC. My router and cable modem are on all the time. My PC goes off at night.
Weird, I think you should call and ask. Is it a specific IP range your having problems with? I know my service acts differently when I have a 74.x.x.x address to when I have a 96.x.x.x address.

So I have another question for you, when your IP address changes, is this something done by Insight, or is it something that happens within the modem automatically?

The reason I asked is my address changed again today about midday. This will be at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks or so.
Basically all that modem does is convert the data signals from the stuff coming over the line to a media your computer can use such as USB or Ethernet. It does have some advanced functions but those are controlled by the head end and of no use to the user. With insight, they don't usually change your ip address unless you are changing the MAC address of whatever device is plugged into the modem. How is the modem connected to your computer? If you have a router is it on all of the time, but to answer your question no they do not usually change the IP.

Since we are talking about splitters, I may have figured out what my problem is. I have a four way splitter behind my PC (Modem, TV, Analog TV Card and Digital Card). When removed and a direct line is running to the cable modem, my SNR runs at about 36. When connected it runs about 33. Could this be my problem?
Did you try it to see if it worked without it? And yes it could be the problem, bad splitters are the bane of most problems in the system that insight uses.

Actually no I haven't YET. I think I will be soon if it continues. It just seems like when I call, it is always my fault, not theirs. "Oh you have spyware on your PC" or "Some kind of BOT". "Let us send a tech out to check the line". When I know this isn't the problem.

Oh well, I may call them tomorrow if it continues.
I remember I went through that for a while, I believe it took me 6 months to get them to figure out that we were having a frequency issue with my 20.0 service. I wanted it bad, and I will say that my persistence paid off. I got in touch with the right people and then the ball started rolling, now keep in mind it took me 5 and half months to get to where I wanted to be, but once I found the right person the issue was fixed in a week. Its all about the red tape. I wish big ISP's had different call centers so that advanced people that understand a little bit, or a lot about what is going on can call and talk to people that will listen to them and that understand that you have already "Powered down and powered up" Good Luck man, I hope they get it fixed!

I understand how you feel, mine was only out for a few minutes and I was pretty irritated. Have you talked to them to see what explanation they give you for the problem? Bad modem possibly?

I should have mentioned...when it is out..the signal is 34 to 34.5. I am not sure what the heck is going on, it has come and gone several times tonight.

It is starting to get irritating.

Wow, I can't believe that your IP is getting changed that much. I have had the same IP address for quite sometime, it usually only changes if you are changing the device connected to the modem. Is your modem actually going out? Or are all the lights staying on and it's not passing any traffic?
Well two of the four lights go out. The two that stay on blink in together. When I look at the modem webpage, it keeps trying to "sync".

Well I did speak to soon. It went out again last night. They didn't change my IP once yesterday but twice. Lets hope they get it right eventually.
