| 7500 on non verizon service
I left Verizon due to over priced service and picked up AMBT as my dsl provider. AMBT provided a Comtrend CT-5071T as a modem but it is not a wireless router. It is a simple plug n play with no login required just connects automatically. I paid for a 7500 when I first got Verizon and would like to continue to use the routing capabilities provided by it. AMBT tells me it is not possible but I find that hard to believe. Can the 7500 be used as a modem not requiring a login? Or failing that can the router portion be used and not the modem part? All help appreciated. |

| I am not sure if you can configure the 7500 with AMBT but You can use the 7500 behind the CT-5071T in Bridge mode. Set up your dsl using CT-5071t and then set up your westell 7500 behind this in bridge mode. This will let you use the 7500 as a wireless and 4 port hard wired router. If you use your Comtrend CT-5071T as the DHCP server you need to set up your 7500 as follows:
1. reset the 7500 2. connect your computer directly to port 3 or 4 on the 7500 3. set you computer IP to 192.168.1.3 4. Connect your CT-5071T to Port 1 on the 7500. 4. Disabled Verizons walled garden by going to 192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm > then click Disable.
5. Go to network connections > Broadband connections > VC Then edit the only VC listed there. You will want to set the protocal to BRIDGE MODE and then Bridge mode option will pop up underneath and you will want to set Bridge mode option to BRIDGE.
6. Make sure VC is enabled and click apply to Save changes
7. Then click on Advanced tab > IP Distribution. turn the DHCP Server OFF.
8. The go to Advanced Tab > Public Lan and Enable the Public lan. You can also change the public IP address to anything you want. Just remember this because you will need it once you disable the Private LAN to access the settings. I set mine to 192.168.2.200 because my DHCP server is using that network and I can access the 7500 by going to that IP address.
9. Go to Advanced TAB > Private Lan and disable Private lan ( If you see a check mark still in the Private lan DHCP - uncheck this as well.
10. After you disable the Private lan you should no be able to connect until you change your computer IP. In my case I set my computer to Auto DHCP and then typed in 192.168.2.200 and re-logged into the 7500. Just make sure you are consistent with your network settings. you should be able to browse the internet with your computer wired to the 7500.
11. Now go to your wireless settings. Set it up the way you want and then save. Then turn the wireless off and then back on again. I had to do this for some reason - don't know why.
At this point you should be good to go. Also, the DSL Light will still be blinking. Dont worry, This cannot be changed unless the 7500 is put in routed bridge mode. I could not get routed bridge mode to work. Maybe someone else on the forum knows how to do this.
Hopefully you can just use the 7500 but if not this will work. Good luck.
