why don't they structure it like other cable companies south of the border that share a very similar business structure? i mean TWcable listened to the people who said metered billing is BS and stopped it before it started. comcast gave their customers giant caps compared to what we deal with. if you think metered billing is anything more than a way to jack the profits up, while holding a large percentage of the customer base over the fire, than you have already drank the koolaid and nothing is gonna help you now. |

Why should I, who only uses half the cap, pay the same as someone who goes over the cap? It's only fair to make those who go over pay more, or suspend them. You should switch to DSL, save some coin - it sounds to me like you're an e-mail granny. This is also a free board, anyone can post here regardless of their ISP. Like metrotitan said, you obviously don't understand peering costs - the additional bandwidth that we're going to pay for has already been paid for on our monthly bill, whodathunkit? This is just another way to rape Canadians and please investors. -- I love fish sticks. I love putting fish sticks in my mouth. |

said by urbanriot :Well, right off the top of my head, they don't have the same overhead, maintenance and operating costs as Cogeco has. You're right, they don't - but Cogeco has significantly more subscribers than they do, their capital is massive in comparison and they can easily afford the maintenance and operating costs. God, I just can't wait to see the DOCSIS pricing, that'll be a top story on BRR "Cogeco rolls out DOCSIS 3.0 - 50/10 $199 / month, $500 installation fee, 100GB Cap"! Good times.
said by urbanriot :Now before you inaccurately accuse me of being an apologist, I also don't agree with the rediculously low caps; but Cogeco's business structure is completely different from their competitors which is the basis of one of your arguments and yet you attempt to complain that they should have a similar pricing structure. Cogeco has a business structure? , I just shit myself. If Cogeco was more like their competitors, they wouldn't have people flocking over to Tek Savvy - Cogeco is going to lose a lot of customers this year and not just savvy ones either. Regular joes don't like price hikes as well. Heck, even the Cogeco die-hards are leaving - is the apocalypse upon us?
said by urbanriot :Well that's clever... assert that the poster (or anyone else) reveals a lack of understanding and ill founded righteousness in an attempt to trump further opinions that are contrary to yours. Did it ever occur to you that maybe it's clever because you know... He's actually right? Naw, couldn't be.

Bring a lawn chair as the actual collision will occur when the average users get their first bill under this. Most threw the notice in the garbage.
I have Nexicom programed in my speed dial with my finger over the button everyday when the mail comes.
10 Mbps, no caps and $39.95 a month first year, $44.95 after that. |

Sadly, I won't be going anywhere for a little while, either; I'm stuck with Cogeco until I move, as for some reason I can only get 512kb from TS. |

| reply to Lexx Today is Thursday and my TekSavvy seems to be up and running. I just swapped the cable from my router to the DSL modem.
Speed tests are showing 3.3Mbps down and 600Kbps up. Not bad I suppose. I watched the new HD trailer for Modern Warfare 2 and it managed to keep ahead of the playback.
Oh well, I guess for $30... Half the price, half the speed, more than triple the cap - ha ha. I hooked up my notebook to my TV to watch the Modern Warfare 2 trailer and it looked great.
Apparently TekSavvy has decent newsgroups servers, so I might look into that and I guess if things work out with that I really wouldn't have a need for Cogeco TV either. |

edit: I just got a great idea. We should make a thread to encourage ONLY subscribers/ex-subscribers of cogeco to submit a review for cogeco and get their "bronze award" taken away. Gixxer, should you have that honor? |

| reply to Lexx Re: June 1st - Leave Cogeco Day
I left Cogeco at the beginning of May when my lease was up, I had been with them for 3 years.
They were ABSOLUTELY fantastic. Best ISP I've ever been with or had experience with.
VERY reliable speeds, fantastic uptime, great customer service. I've never ever had a problem with them -- things always worked out. I had Digital Cable and the home phone.
The only thing i didn't like was the fact that they aggressively throttle connections, but that actually worked for me as I always had all my bandwidth for USENET.
But I left. Why? Because I can't take the 60Gig cap. Simple as that. As long as there exists a different option for me, I'm going to take it. In this case, I found 7Mbit Primus, unlimited and unthrottled. Had I not used Primus, it would have been Teksavvy.
If they offered a cap of say 200gigs, I'd probably want to go back to Cogeco. But with housemates, it's hard because all of us use the internet.
But that wont stop me from recommending Cogeco to anybody who is not a big internet user. |

Won't cost you a thing and you might get surprised. How, I don't have a DSL modem. They can do a qualify based on your current phone number, but if you have Cogeco VOIP, it might be difficult to do. I just called Teksavvy they couldnt tell me line stats without me being hooked already to Teksavvy |
